I did it myself a couple months ago and I think it wasn't that bad, but if I would have watched this video before, I think I would have done a way better job (even though my hair is thick, I didn't grab enough hair for the hime part). I think that if you really like the hairstyle and how it would look on you, you should have the freedom to do it! It's very similar to bangs with feathery face-framing side pieces, just with straight cuts. I also looked the hairstyle up again to see if I could learn more about the history, and apparently it's now showing up on the fashion runways along with 80s style mullets.

my hair is curly too and i did this haircut!! my curls are 2b/2c and sometimes i use hair straightener. sometimes i let the bangs curly and it looks good. for some curls, hairstyles that are just for 'straight hair' are just a myth because i had a mullet too. so don't be afraid to do the haircuts you want

How would one get that multi-layered hime style seen on Sengoku era ladies in period dramas? They usually have 2 layers of shorter face-framing bits and then a bit longer that goes down their chest, and the rest is super long and tied back loosely (sometimes with loops). It looks very pretty.
