Don't EVER buy anything from this guy, shady and unscrupulous, I liked a shirt he was wearing in one of his videos, purchased it a few weeks ago, made a mistake a ordered a women's size, and they after immediately writing to rectify, and pleading to make the change to a large mens, they said there is nothing they can do, wouldn't change it, couldn't, impossible. they sent me a woman's size shirt that will never fit me for $60, insane. Beware, not good business, shady and unscrupulous.

The fingertip covers are marketed to everyone, but they’re like most products people find useless. They’re for disabled people. I stopped hating on them when visiting my grandfather a few years back and learning he’d quit playing guitar. He’s 89 now, and as his health and diabetes worsens, his skin has become sensitive in ways calluses can’t help. It’s any pressure that hurts under the skin, not the skin itself. It’s the swelling. I gave him a set of those, and he plays every now and then because of them. They don’t protect enough to stop the pain completely, but they do lessen it enough for him to handle every now and then. Started learning how a lot of the stupid inventions we mock in memes are for disabled people like that. It’s just hard to produce something solely for disabled people at an affordable price, so it’s marketed to the general public.

this is SUCH a good comment. this is an issue for a million different products, and i see complaints of "convenience devices" all the time about "who would use those??". Systematic ableism is such a huge problem. Keep spreading awareness like you're doing!

I’ll defend the finger guards a little. I was working in my woodshed and clipped the tip of my left index finger with a saw. Nothing was cut off, but there was a sizable bit of skin missing. After getting it glued back together, I realized that my callus was basically gone, and my finger was incredibly tender. I used the finger guards to help cushion the pain until I could get back to playing normal.

Everyone who plays a compatible instrument should have an e-bow. Even if you never use it on a song, just play with it for an afternoon. Follow the tutorials from the Heet Sound people on how to use it for best effect; most people just use it to make howling wailing mournful sustainy sounds but you can use it to create shrieking high-pitched feedback as well as some pretty interesting arpeggio-bowing effects that no one ever seems to use it for on recordings.
@jangrabk
@jangrabk Жыл бұрын
I used an eBow for years - great tool and very versatile. But I must confess I've retired it now because I bought a guitar with a Fernandez sustainer pickup in it, which allows me to use both hands for playing - holding the eBow can be slightly restricting at times...

For anyone looking for a gift for a guitarist-I also recommend asking them. This list has a lot of good hits for general guitarist stuff, but especially for the guitars themselves, certain genres like metal wouldn't often use some of the things in this video. Your friend may also already own some of these gifts, or an alternative (e.g. a sustainer pickup instead of an E-bow.)

Im pretty sure Variax guitars are still made by Line 6, and they are supposed to be quite nice, especially when paired with a Helix or POD modeler. If I didn't already have 20 different guitars, it would be pretty cool to get a Variax, which can be made to sound like multiple different types of guitar through my modeler.
@FakyMcFake
@FakyMcFake Жыл бұрын
Just what I wanted to say, Line6 still makes Variax models, though they had much more variety ~10 years ago. As a mediocre guitarist I got myself a Line6 Variax Shuriken together with a Helix LT and am really happy with them. Not only can you modify the sound, but also tune each string individually up to an octave up or down and save that as a preset. When I jam out to a metal playlist I never have to physically retune or switch my guitar depending on the tuning, I just push a button and go. Some purists may frown upon something like that and the price may be a bit steep, but I wouldn't wanna miss it anymore!
@jangrabk
@jangrabk Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was also gonna mention that - the guitar he showed was one of the original Variax guitars - I had one of the 700 series in blue with a beautiful top to the body, and it transformed gigging in clubs - I only needed one guitar instead of several. But then they brought out the James Tyler Variax range - and this is what's still produced. I have the JTV-59 model which has a lovely cherry sunburst top on it - the James Tyler Variax range includes conventional pickups as well as the piezo in the bridge. The original Variax didn't have any conventional pickups, so if your batteries died, you couldn't continue playing. The JTV-59 has a battery with a 12 hour gigging life and also includes a lower level indicator. The flexibility of these guitars is stupendous - you even have acoustics available. We used to cover "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi - I started with a 12-string acoustic in Drop D tuning, and then switched over to a Strat with normal tuning for the rock part near the end - no need to swap guitars. It's also brilliant for recording because you never get any interference. I paired it up with my Line 6 POD HD500 (yeah, I know the Helix is awesome) and my Line 6 wireless setup and was able to play any type of song - wouldn't be without it (although I do have another 15 different types of guitars as well...) - so NO - it's not old technology, far from it!

The Line 6 Variax is definitely still available, especially the Shuriken signature model of Stevic MacKay of Twelve Foot Ninja. He and Rohan both use them with a pedal board that allows them to switch tuning and models with just the tap of a foot. They've done a lot for driving up the sales of these incredible guitars. And, to answer your question, yes, they were and still are great guitars as they're made by Yamaha.

From $120 to $400 US to CDN you can buy a Positive Grid Spark Go, Spark Mini or Spark 40 Amp or a Spark CAB. I have the Epi SG Muse, the Spark 40 & the Spark CAB and I gifted my daughter the Spark Go as she's not at the stage where she's playing guitar or bass in public yet. 5:38 You are double wrong. a) The Variax guitars do still exist. b) They are great guitars that are even used by some guitarists on tour like Steve Howe of Yes and John McFee of the Doobie Brothers. Both those players practically swear by the technology of the Line 6 Variax. There are even ones made in collaboration with James Tyler.

Here here - I've just answered someone else who mentioned this - I have my James Tyler Variax JTV-59 which is a brilliant guitar, and has served me superbly well for about 15 years now - they are great to record with. Steve Howe was the first Line 6 Variax endorsee - I actually bought a blue 700 series like his, but part-exed it to get the JTV-59 which is very much more versatile - there's a separate knob to alter the guitar tunings - you can even set it to baritone! Amazing technology - and the facility to be able to customise the patches using free software is superb!

How do the fingertip protector things work on the right hand for finger picking? As a classical guitarist primarily sometimes wanting to play steel strings I've been curious to try these to protect my nails or to get the sound of no nails playing in general in the right hand. I may just by them sometime to try out like that and do my own video, but thought I would throw the idea out there. I have adjusted my steel string and electric playing to not be as harsh and good nail care and technique does alot but still I end up playing quieter much of the time to protect them on steel strung instruments. And nail polish only does so much and finger picks are just limiting.

Any recommendations on a solid music stand? Doesn’t have to be like Al DiMiola quality (you ever see his?), but sturdy & able to write on the score/charts.
