Many people think Zappa reassembled the Monterey Pop guitar and used it in the early 70's, but the guitar he got from Hendrix was a different one altogether.

You should totally do a series of these, so many famous guitars out there. You could talk about Frampton's Les Paul that was stolen and then recovered miraculously decades later, the Jag-Stang, Rick Nielsen's checkerboard Hamer Standard that 3M did the graphics on, or his 5-neck guitar, or any Rick Nielsen guitar, lol, Phil Collen's Dracula Jackson done by Dan Lawrence, Les Claypool's first Carl Thompson bass, Rory Gallagher's famous Strat that was the first Fender Strat ever to make it to England, the Randy Rhoads polka dot V, pretty much any of SRV's guitars, I could keep going.

RED. SPECIAL. It's funny that Brian's world famous, one-and-only guitar was made by him and his father, because it took a really long time for his dad to accept that Brian was a musician first and a scientist second. He had always thought Brian was throwing his life away until he brought his parents over to New York to see Queen at Madison Square Garden.
@thomasfleig34995 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that was a great story. I saw an interview where Brian told that story, and his his dad told him "I get it now", after the show. He teared up talking about it. You can tell that he loved his dad, and having his dad accept him for what he was meant everything to him.

Thing that is interesting about Brian May's Red Special, is it was built in 1963. Many innovative ideas for the time. First, a great whammy bar that went up in pitch and went to a perfect octave. Also stayed in tune. the strings are in alignment with the locking tuners on the headstock. 25 fretted guitar. Unheard of in the early 60's. With a ghost fret at the nut. For a sitar, vocalize effect. Chambered solid Mahogany body built to sustain and harmonically feedback in tune. I have a Burns Brian May. I use it for everything but, ironically Queen Music. Of course also Uli Jon Roth's Sky Guitar. Extremely innovative and amazing as well. Not store bought and made famous by the Rockstar user, Made by a visionary, who made a guitar that sounded like the amazing sound in their head. Enjoyed your video greatly. Keep up the good work. Peace.

Best guitar story I've read recently is John Fogerty's ACME Rickenbacker, which he bought early 60s, modded, used in all records with CCR, and when his life turned to shit and he was robbed out of his own band, sold the guitar. He went out and tried to buy back the guitar couple of times but people were asking ridiculous amount of money for it, so he gave up. Now he just recently reposessed his life's guitar after more than 40 years, when his wife bought the instrument from a guitar dealer and surprised him with last christmas.

There's a 40 minute video where Brian does nothing but talk about and demonstrate his musical journey and that of the Red Special here, if you haven't seen it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/infWpJ2AgNaGh7s He gets into some really interesting stuff with self-harmonization, feedback, and tambour production, and it's really worthwhile to see. Now that's a story..

Great video. Love all guitar stories. Heres one for your next video to validate...I heard that when Eric Clapton came out of the yardbirds and was recording the Creams first album, he was using a Telecaster and was having trouble controlling the tone and complained it was just too shrill in sound. Andy Summers, who was in the studio that evening offered up his burgundy Gibson ES 335...EC had used one before when he recorded with John Mayall and loved it...after the Cream session, EC convinced Andy Summers to keep the Telecaster in exchange and Summers kept that guitar, only to use it to record and perform hits 15 years later in his band, the POLICE! What a trade...

So anyway I traded my busted neck acoustic for it for a mere $40 and brought the electric home and it has like an 80's view (hence the name "Valen") due to its Floyd rose and locking nut... Little did I know that I was holding a piece of history! So I look at the serial number (lz05020) and looked it up and... Its production number is 20... And it was made in December 5 1985! And now I will use this as not only studio but live as well!

My favorite is Malcolm Young's "Beast", the Gretsch Jet Firebird he used for most of his career. It was given to him by one of his brother George's Easybeats bandmates and was originally red. It stayed red into the early days of AC/DC, but Malcolm decided to remove the paint, resulting in a bare wood finish it kept through the rest of his career. Malcolm removed the neck pickup, feeling that the single bridge pickup and resonance from the hollow inner chambers sounded better. He played Beast for most of his AC/DC career, though he used a hollow body Gibson in the early 1980's as well. When he was forced to retire, nephew Stevie Young assumed his place in the band. To maintain the sound, Stevie initially used a red Jet Firebird and now appears to use a Malcolm Young Salute Jet that is very similar to Malcolm's Beast. Finally, Gretsch sells a Malcolm Young Signature Jet Firebird and Salute Jet. They are, I believe, the only models Gretsch sells with a natural finish.

To all those complaining that *this* guitar or *that* guitar wasn't listed: The title is "The Stories Behind 7 Famous Guitars". Not the best, most famous or greatest 7. Just 7 stories. Yeah....Knopfler's Strat could be there, Page's LP, SRV's Number One, Billy Gibbons' Pearly Gates, Billy Malcom's Gretsch, Armstrong's Blue, Dimebag, Springsteen's Tele, Bo Diddley, Randy Rhoads, Angus Young.....blah blah blah. You're all right. Stories exist for all those instruments. This guy told 7 stories he chose. We could all do the same.

If I remember it right, Dweezil Zappa found what's left of Jimi Hendrix's burnt guitar and asked his father, Frank, what to do with it. So, Frank Zappa allowed his son to take the guitar to Fender so they can rebuild it. Years later, Dweezil Zappa took the same guitar to Norm's Rare Guitars so Norm can take a look at it. If you'll just check that channel, I know you'd find that video. I love this video! Very informative!

If you are a little older, one of the seminal sounds was Grand Funk Railroads early garage fuck sound. Mark Farner played a Musicraft Messenger. It had a a magnesium-aluminum alloy neck AND had the funky tape (years before Van Halen) over the f-holes that were stuffed to keep it from squealing on stage. But the final sound was this crazy percussive sound which gave GFR it's nature's garage energy. Eastwood Guitars has started selling well built replicas.

samuraiguitarist - Zakk Wylde's signature bullseye Gibson Les Paul was originally supposed to be painted with the vertigo hypnotizing circle but they made a mistake and painted the bullseye. He received this guitar just before a gig with no time to have it fixed and it ended up just sticking. The Zakk Wylde Les Paul custom bullseye was born!

The Peter Frampton Black Les Paul. It was the guitar from the album cover of “Frampton Comes Alive” and it was believed to have been lost in a plane crash for over 35 years. Then he got an email regarding details of recovery, and apparently it was one of the only things that survived the crash.
