There have been four previous actors played Hasegawa Heizou. Started with current grandfather Matsumoto Hakuou, then second uncle Yorozuya Kinnosuke and Tanba Tetsurou before most famous Nakamura Kichiemon who was an uncle of current Matsumoto Koushirou. I still love Nakamura Kichiemon’s Onihei which lasted well over 30 years. I had some doubts about current Matsumoto Koushirou since the last one with Nakamura Kichiemon was way too big. I have seen several good old stories with new Onihei and now changed my mind that this is absolutely new type of Onihei even original stories of Ikenami Shoutaru. I think Nakamura Kichiemon is only an actor who played every 120 stories of Onihei novels (towards end of his life he played popular stories with different actors). Now I am looking forward to see more new Onihei even I read/watched all of stories.

Of all the shows we have seen we find this series along with Zatoichi though very different shows to be rich in pathos, human empathy, and connection. Therefore the most rewarding and enriching.

Very good series. So far I like all of them esp. Lawless Lover by Terajima Shinobu, she is so good whatever role she plays. Good or Bad character.

I am watching these shows and when I see a familiar face with many years added like kikjo? Would runaround for the actor who played ichi and the Shogun play a bad guy The stories are good a different kind of drama and we live now almost less stressful
