The skin is a vital organ and not just because it keeps everything in. Have a look at the epidermis, dermis and hypodermis, the cells and layers within those parts and how understanding this helps clinically.

14:25.. I will continue :) Be wary what they trying to sell you in cosmetic products, where they add collagen. Collagen should be created by our body, so we need to make sure to have sufficient amount of resources to build those molecules, but collagen applied topically (on the skin) is mainly shedded away, not being absorbed. This is just not the way that we replenish our collagen. Great videos, thank you Professor Sam Webster! 🙂

Fascinating stuff. Thank you. You explained a bit about blisters, but what about scars? I guess they form because the cut extends into the stratum basale and destoys its cell generation abilities so the scar tissue doesn't get replaced?

A bit like burns. A deep cut into the skin can leave a gap. Collagen fibres fill the gap and join the edges together, giving a scar. A deep scrape along the skin takes away the epidermis (including the stratum basale) so collagen fibres are made to fill the gap. Skin grows in from the edges to cover the scar.

@@SamWebster Thank you. I'm a big fan of your videos. They've helped me understand my own issues and i've been able to ask informed questions at appointments then, often surprising the doctors :)

@@SamWebsterI have 3 Root canal since childhood. Is highly possible that my 26 years psoriasis to be linked to root canals? 2 of them hurts. I want to pull out my upper teeth. Thank you for your answer.
