San Bernardino County Goes Automated

In this video, we've got a mixture of clips that show the process of Burrtec transitioning their manual collection routes in San Bernardino County to automated trash collection. Most of the front load truck clips don't appear in chronological order by date, like I'm normally OCD about lol. But they're just samples of videos I'll have to feature over the next couple of years. The rollout will also have it's own special video, as well as the automated trucks, although I didn't film as much of them upon review of the footage. And let me also point out that the automated trucks are not the permanent trucks for this route in particular. Starting the week of June 27, every driver's route changed, and the Tuesday routes in this video were annexed into San Bernardino's Thursday city routes. It makes sense because the county area is composed of several small islands. Comment, rate and enjoy! Thanks to all drivers and the CanDo crew for allowing me to film. Nice to see san Bernardino modernizing the trash pick up service. It is a lot more efficient to have automatic trash pick up rather than having a garbage man picking up the cans and loading the trash or recyclable into the truck by hand.

Despite san Bernardino switching to automatic trash pick-up trash trucks. There are still plenty of other cities that still use manual trash pick-up trash trucks, mostly in large cities such as New York City.

They probably switched to automatic pickup because they want to limit how much trash and recyclable each resident throws out a week. There is a limit on how much a trash truck can handle. Plus there is limit on how much trash a dump can handle too.

Sad seeing another manual area transitioning to automated collection. I think Burrtec should make 60 gal the standard size for trash and all other commodities 90 gal since most of the waste can be recycled and would probably raise recycling rates in the area. Also the mix of clips of manual and automated collections was nice. Hopefully, some of the Fl's will live on for bulk collection and I would expect a lot of 90 gal carts will start to crack if 1377 becomes the permanent truck for the route.

Nice video! Sad to see manual collection get phased out but oh well. Did those bins that were hoppered recycled? Did u get any? Do you know what will happen to all those rehrig manual bins? They seem like a really cool addition!

Nope, they went to the landfill. I got some recycling bins, one manual can, and 3 of the blue cans but of a different brand. I know Burrtec took them back, so my guess is that Rehrig took them and recycled them.

Why do people enjoy manual collection so much ? Do you just enjoy watching drivers do more work . I don’t get it.. technology improves and makes jobs easier .. why get sad instead of happy lol

Bryant v couldn’t agree more, as a residential driver myself, I can’t stand to be put on a manual collection route!! People never follow the rules of not overloading there cans and expect us to pick them up with no issues. With automated route you can load the cans up because the truck is doing the work.

Depends on the market - if there's no buyer for the material, there's no need to collect it. Plus not many haulers accept any plastic film, industry-wide, because they get jammed & clogged in the sorting machinery & equipment.

@@94tristen_thetrashman ah that makes sense.also trash companies offer all 3 bins in 32 64 and 96 gallon.why would they give the largest regular trash bin and medium size recycling bins instead of a 96 greenwaste/recycling and a 64 regular waste to increase recycling

Burrtec brags about recycling yet still is giving out 90s for trash and 60s for recycling?... Or maybe the trash gets sorted similar to many other parts of the IE...

they have a MRF in riverside and I was told also in sanberdo also the MRF behind the speedway in Fontana which serves just about the whole IE there is a landfill in Redlands owned by the city I don't know if CAL got rid of the MSL trucks after burrtec took over I did see one of them last month

It should be like LA sanitation and calmat services where they should pass out a 90 gallon green waste 90 gallon recycling and 64 gallon waste. If you want a bigger waste container you're going to pay more money
