San Diego County woman arrested in $8M shoplifting ring targeting Ulta Beauty stores

A San Diego County woman has been arrested for her role in leading a nationwide shoplifting ring worth more than $8 million in beauty products, according to federal search warrants obtained by CBS 8.
Federal agents identified Bonsall resident, Michelle Mack as the head of the criminal enterprise.
According to the search warrants, Mack paid as many as 12 people to steal from Ulta Beauty stores, as well as other retail outlets, and ship them to her Bonsall post office box.

Since she was running a theft ring, why not take her house, sell it and give it to the Ulta company because nothing hurts them more than putting them back where they started, with nothing. If you let them keep everything they bought with that money they’re not getting punished at all.

It's a tough issue. They can take the house if they can prove it was entirely paid for by proceed from criminal enterprise. Otherwise, there may be other people living there that contributed legitimately or were not at fault, like kids or parents, renters, co-owners, etc. They can still go after the house, but would have to then liquidate it, list it, sell it, and find an independent assessor to distribute the proceeds, then that distribution can be challenged if other parties feel it's unfair.... So yeah, it's possible, but will likely take years and won't leave much after all the legal costs.

agree, not all victims are nation-chain level; many of the clientele I help are small business owners w/business loans or lines of credit and when insurance claim is made for either theft or vandalism, the insurance co pay out and drop them like there's no tomorrow, then operator often has to go under expensive lender-placed forced insurance which they financially are obligated to pay.
