San Diego Trolley in Downtown

Since 1981, the San Diego Trolley has been serving the downtown area, as well as several surrounding communities in the city of San Diego. Here, you will see the trolley running through San Diego, focusing on downtown. All 4 types of modern LRV vehicles owned by SD MTS are featured as well as their vintage streetcar, PCC number 529.

We have the U2's here in Alberta, Canada in both Edmonton and Calgary. However, they are slowly being changed.

I know! I have always wanted to go to Australia...must be nice! Melbourne is my favourite of all of the cities though. I hear it has opposite seasons! Winter is Summer there! So cool. OMG! I was on the one at 4:50! I Remember going down to Washington Street from San Ysidro Tijuana To Visit My Grandma In the area. I remember being on that trolley and it showed the same people out there that I saw! Lmfao!

Compare with videos or photos of these cars in Mendoza, Argentina. Their light rail opened in 2012 with 31 cars fr San Diego, plus 4 as parts sources. One car is at the trolley museum in Rockhill, PA. Commenter said 2 are at Orange Empire. Knoxville, TN had plans for light rail using 18 of these cars but Tennessee officials moved to practically outlaw light rail development as they did with bus rapid transit in Nashville.

Just had a thought, have you ever looked at videos of the trolly service in Prague? I've been there a few times and travelled on their their trolly service. It's quite an experience. It's both above and below ground. Worth a look.

U2's are going away next week, as the blue line will make it's transition to S70/SD100 service. Long live the U2's.

Mike H It will be a bittersweet day in SD MTS history. I will really miss those cars, as I grew up with them. Nice seating and a neat car design. Gone but not forgotten I guess.

CoasterFan2105 S70 low floor cars are already being tested, and the Blue Line is the final stages of renovation which should end by June. It will be sad, but the first few days of S70 service on that line will be hectic, as people are going to have to get used to the S70's seating capacity.

U2 cars seem to have disappeared from the blue line, as it is now S70 with SD100's in the middle of the 3 car trainset.

There is a 4 hour or so window in the middle of the night when they don't run so that freight can run on the line.

I was told that it has to do with the couplings between the cars but that may be incorrect.

T Bone I think they are also called called U2A's

1 they have incompatible electrical coupling connections 2 they're not U2As. They're purely SD-100s. Those were the earlier cars like what Sacramento has. These cars are the upgraded version with newer electronics although they share the same body design.
