A work of art indeed! Mouth-watering seeing the kit and feeling your enthusiasm already for improvements, I would be tempted myself if I was progressing faster with my first ship "La Candelaria". Two months since the start and I have only now added the bulwarks, but I did plank the decks with individual pieces of wood rather than long strips. Incidentally I used black marker on the sides of deck planking and it looks good, but I left the ends clear to avoid bleeding into the end grain. Eager to see this one started John!

Hi John. San Felipe will be a great build. I got mine three days ago. Like you, I will finish my build in progress. I'm just beginning the rigging on Trinadad, so I will start on her a bit before you will. I do agree that Felipe will be something special, and also a challenge. I believe we are up to it. John can you recommend a good beginner's model. I've only built one. The blue nose, it was year's ago. After watching your videos I'd like to see how I can do. Any help would be great. I don't have a lot of tools so the easiest would be the best. Thanks.

Yes, absolutely, i think La Candelaria is easy enough. The hull is double planked and there wasn't any particular point that bothered me, and you have a full series to guide you! Of course you can ask me anything anytime :) You have to remember 2 things, 1) make mistakes, that's how you will learn, 2) Wood does forgive mistakes, not all of them but a lot :)

It depends in your region, if you are in Europe then it's OcCre directly (they are station in Spain). If you are in the States, then try to find local a distributor, of course again you can get it from OcCre.

Looks like a beautiful ship John. No doubt you will make it a work of art. Looking forward to the build. Have you reached out to OcCre to see if they have any other options for the captains quarters? Its so common to use LED's for that area you'd think they might have some aftermarket option. Either way I'm sure it will be a wonderful build.

Yes i have, i looked out for photo edged windows to fit the scale but they didn't have any. I have some thoughts about the stern windows , what i can insure you is that the stern will have lights!

Hi Peter, check out any of my series of Cutty Sark, HMS Victory, La Candelaria and HMS Endeavour. In any video of these series that i tie something , in the description of the video you will find the information you need.

Perhaps if you make clear resin copies of the lanterns, you could drill out the center and put an LED inside to light it. I did something similar using Oyumaru to make the cast and UV resin since it is clear.

They are pretty small to be able to insert a LED inside. I asked from OcCre lanterns like the ones in Montanes and they are going to send me some.

Hi Geo! I will start the building immediately after the competition of Cutty Sark. I estimate around June. No i won't leave the one side open because i will have electric circuit inside and led lights 😀

​@@geofftompkinsonit will be extremely difficult to hide the wiring with an open hull. Also you will need special wiring and single leds , not ledstrips. Have in mind that this kit wasn't designed to have led lights.

This ship will definitely give the HMS VICTORY a run for her money. And I there is a tool that you can get to cut out the windows but keep the windows frame in place. And yes I think I may order this kit soon. After I get the USS Constitution and build her

Yes ,this is the DeAgostini ship , OcCre bought the rights and repacjed the kit , It's a shame that they are going this road. I think that ZHL's San Felipe, although that as some issues in the building process , it's much more affordable , larger scale and excellent decoration pices ,and the optional of pear wood decor upgrade (not cheap though). Good luck with the build John.
