San Fernando Mission
In the northern part of the San Fernando Valley in the community of Mission Hills, is the Spanish Mission San Fernando Rey de Espana, built in 1797. One of the twenty one Spanish Missions founded in what was known as Alta California.
All the missions in California are interesting to visit. There are a time capsules from long ago and the seeds from which the state of California has sprouted from.
The missions are the cultural well spring of the names, places and culture that are so much a part of Los Angeles and the state today. Well worth a visit if you have never visited before.
Reconstructed after weather, earthquakes, vandalism and neglect, most of the Spanish missions still operate as active Catholic parishes, with regular services. Self-guided tours are usually available; hours and fees may vary.

There is a small spring on the west side of the Mission grounds and a stream. They say it's the original spring.

There was never a "Camino real" during mission times, that myth was created to expand automobile tourism in the early 1900s
