San Francisco Mint: Inside Tour

The Old San Francisco Mint located on 88 Fifth Street closed in 1937 and coining operations were taken over by the current San Francisco Mint located on 155 Hermann Street which is 1.7 miles southwest of the previous site. The Old San Francisco Mint on 88 Fifth Street was actually the second San Francisco Mint and the current San Francisco Mint located on 155 Hermann Street is actually the third San Francisco Mint. The first San Francisco Mint was located on 608 Commercial Street adjacent to Chinatown and operated from 1854 until 1874 when it was superseded by the second San Francisco Mint. In 2006, the Old San Francisco Mint dubbed "The Granite Lady" was commemorated on gold $5 coins, silver $1 coins & cupronickel clad half dollar coins sold by the United States Mint.

ALL my proof coins that I buy I choose to come from San Francisco Mint.....This is where the best quality proofs come from.. ALL my coins from there rate out to a MINIMUM of PF69.....some deep cameo...to.....F70 (which is PERFECT!) some deep cameo. SOME of these coins may price out a 1 to 4 times value because of high grades.

Steam had nothing to do with the production of bars. Bars were rolled to correct thickness on steam powered machines. Blanks were cut from strip of metal using steam powered presses.
