This use to be Santa Fe line. Two trips a day when I was a kid. Lots of Potatoes. My great grandfather helped with the funding of line for his friend Mr. Whittier, developer of Hemet. Now owned by Metrolink. Someday will be added to ‘line that now ends in Perris. Rail is too light for current trains now.

The Speeders that used to be used for maintenance had handles like wheelbarrow handles sticking out from each end which made maneuvering them on and off the track a lot easier.
@michaelmorgan7893 Жыл бұрын
When I lived in Hanford, I would see Joe Gomez (track supervisor for Santa Fe) pull out those staves, and turn the speeder. Then there was a short section of track that went up into a wooden shed, where the speeder would be stored until the supervisor for the next division used it.

Seems to me it takes a lickin an keeps on tickin. It was John Cameron Swayze that would say it. Some of the commercials they filmed were real Adventures like the one where they sent a huge Redwood log with a Timex watch tied onto it over the spillway of the Grand Coulee Dam. The log was like 4 ft in diameter and about 15 yards long and all painted Orange. Afterwards they found some little orange splinters Downriver.

The old Taft Sunset line had quite a few places like that big washout between Levee and Pentland Jct. They (BNSF) had contractors come in and removed the remaining sections of the line from Levee to Taft in 2006. They took trestles and all.

As you might already know, it gets worse the further east you go. The owner(Metrolink), has been removing lengths of rail in the city of Hemet. I think they’re reusing them elsewhere. A lot of rail is gone.

You're lucky you didn't get ejected from your cart like I did boot legging on Manituline Island in Canada. I derailed and was thrown out of my motorcar. I landed on my left side on cinder ballast. It tore my left arm up. Nothing was broken. Thank God! My car went down the embankment and landed on it's side with the engine running. I was with another bootlegger and rerailed the car. We loaded up and headed home to Michigan. But the run was beautiful with stone cuts, a water fall and a large horse show curve! It was worth it. The rails have been removed and it is now a bike trail

how many miles per gallon does that vehicle do ? it must be very efficient i guess, because there will be very little roll resistance on the railway compared to the softer tires cars have. beside that, the whole land there is a desert because of deforestation, a man made catastrophy. it would be helpful to you if you would set a GPS waymarker on that missing rail as seen in 4:06 , there are smartphone apps for navigation for that, so next time your phone would give you an allert if you come close to that marked spot, in case you would forget where exactly that missing piece of the railway is.
@archiemoreno Жыл бұрын
1 gallon 60 miles I can go. Very good idea about the application and put an alert. thank you
@PhantomWoIf Жыл бұрын
@@archiemoreno 60mpg is efficient for a vehicle that size and that speed, that means your vehicle doesnt need that much energy to make a journey. a solar panel and electric motor would probably be enough to move that little vehicle on a rail at travel speeds. that would be traveling for free, without having to buy fuel anymore. only thing would be the solar panel costs some and the electric motor too. a little plow in front of that vehicle closer to the railway would be helpful to move the bushes out of the way, so that the bushes dont get under the wheels and cause a derailment. by the way, that looks like alot of fun riding that railway vehicle. 👍
@willykrupp4419 ай бұрын
Buena sugerencia, pero los paneles solares resultan fragiles a los golpes en estos casos de viajes improvisados y de aventura. Saludos...!!

Probably filled with sand for traction when the drive wheel starts slipping would be my guess
@archiemoreno Жыл бұрын
It is sand so that it can hold the wheel, since it is the only one that drives and since the track has a lot of grass. It remains slipping, when you cast sand the problem is solved. Greetings
