Great video.. just so you know, that tree is a cedar tree growing off an old tree that fell or died. We call that a nurse/nursing tree. The roots of the tree that grows off all the nutrients from the decaying log/stump/tree are left exposed as they make their way to the ground.when the stump eventually decays completely away the new tree looks very different as it looks supported by 'air' The Island is covered in these trees.

Thanks. It's so awesome up there. We don't have those in Colorado, but they are very cool to see.

Nice one! I was surprised how busy the parking lot was! But it looked like the beach was fairly empty (?)

It was really busy that day. We had to wait for some cars to leave so we could park. It's a big beach, so it didn't seem too crowded, but there were people around.

Sorry, lol, you have tripped across one popular 4x4 thing that must be included in KZbin posts that at 70, you think I would have heard about or observerved. I am jokingly referencing the airing of the tires. My job included inspecting new road construction, the very top, back end, not properly surfaced yet. This could also include up to an hour to one of those west coast towns on gravel. Plus I have recreated my whole life on such roads without the comfort of a fleet vehicle, Nanaimo to Tofino used to take 8 hours. So why did I never have a flat on a vehicle, this excludes boat trailers? The best way I can think of how to rationalize my amusement is to explain local understandings. The best defence is the right, all weather, all terrain, knobby tred tires inflated to the recommended pressure. Second, and worth a mention is always switch to 4x4 when entering the gravel. The pavement folks will whine about the milage while the local knows this is where allot of the ride comes from and handling is worth it. So there was a time you would see workers at the intersections of pavement and gravel stopped to lock in those hubs. But never did anybody at any point going up the mountain suggest we needed to adjust the tire pressure? These can be community access and the locals have just as poor a tred on their Toyota as the guy in the city. He knows the third secret, all safety considered, you may use the whole road surface so stay away from sharp rocks. You can see the opposite of these tips when it comes to boat trailers, and in that case I have lowered the tires and had to travel at very slow speeds. All because they dont make a good enough tire to fit under the fenders of boat trailers, simple but very costly. We were even stopped by a cop coming out of Zeballos with no trailer lights or fenders, the fenders were hanging out of the boat and we had cut the wires with an axe. My boss yelled at the cop we would stich it together when we hit the pavement, the cop quietly got back in the cruiser, bad day. So the only place I can put my finger on the origin of this proceedure is the 4x4 posting clubs for 4x4s about a decade ago when I used to monitor thier activities for the government, lol. I now camp in a dodge caravan and go to the same places, but I have the best tire I can get for the model! Oh, and thanks for triggering my rootbeer float habit, great to know they have finaly stocked that place up!

it was early days on van.isl. and Fort Victoria had been built by the Hudson's Bay Co. who had been given "rights" on the island by the crown who wanted HBC to help get settlers to come ...A family arrived from overseas having been promised land if they came...Governor Douglas was there and told them where they could settle...but it was on the extreme northern end of the island Cape Scott/ San Josef Bay...undeterred the family set off and made it to their new homestead San Josef Bay...it is an incredible tale of surviving the terrain and climate and wildlife to establish their home...l read it in a volume on the history of the island... l can tell you the trek north on foot on trails if there were any with all their supplies etc must have been an epic struggle...but they were tough and they did it...HBC eventually lost their crown right to the island for failing to allow settlement except their employee's and buddies....
