I'm really not seeing the problem here. Any law enforcement agency can have class III weapons if they feel they need them, so they are not "illegal." They can buy them directly from the manufacturer with a "letterhead" purchase order. They were securely stored in a safe. Where's the wrongdoing? This is an excuse to oust her for something else they don't like about her.

So far she's been asked to step down by the entire County Board of Supervisors, the union that represents her Deputies, the union that represents her Sergeants and Lieutenants, and now 5 of her Captains. And that's not even counting the sworn staff that have left. It's not a good look.
