This song means so much to me. I was in Marine Corps boot camp and hadnt heard any music in weeks. I went into the dentist office and this song was on the speakers. It was like a message from above. It will forever remain a memory for me.

What a passionate song . I remember when Terrance first came on the scene back in the 80’s. His voice was so unique. He sounded like Sam Cooke and Bobby Womack in one voice. What a talent. It’s been a while since I’ve heard this song and it’s only gotten better with time. The classics have a way of doing that. No music today can come close to the 60’s-80’s era.
@Kruppt8082 жыл бұрын
And the people at the time said no music compares to the 50s . See, each generation shits on the current music and longs for music of long ago. So you are no different from the people who claimed 60s, 70s, and or 80s was horrible at the time.

This song has bittersweet memories for me. I was 7 when this came out and my mom sister and brother were alive now they are gone. We were homeless at the time but with music we got to live vicariously and hope for better days since my father was abusive and we barely had anything. I’ll always cherish these times, holding on for better days and that God continues to wake me up. If it wasn’t for music I wouldn’t be here or dream. Man, I miss this era of music. That kiss at the end is everything! So sensual. I remember having a dance audition to this song and danced for my mom since she was a victim of domestic violence.

This song brings back so many memories! I was 17 years old in 1987. I was working at a place where we where all young, between 16 and 22, and two or three nights a week after work we went to a bar near our workplace. In Sweden you have to be 18 to drink alcohol at bars, but I guess I looked older than my age 'cause I never had any problems ordering drinks. We were a group of 15-20 people going to this bar, and every night we played this song on the jukebox, over and over again. We all loved it! Then came the day when I turned 18, March 16:th, 1988. Of course it was a birthday to celebrate, and of course we went to our favorite bar to celebrate. The owner of the bar noticed we where celebrating, and asked me what the occasion was. I said "It's my 18:th birthday!" and he was at first mad. "What?!" he yelled. "You've been drinking here for months, and you weren't 18?! We could have lost our permit to sell alcohol if anyone would have found out!" (The laws for selling alcohol at restaurants and bars where, and are, strict in Sweden). I felt a bit ashamed, I hadn't been thinking about that, all I cared about was partying and drinking with my friends. Luckily, the owner soon calmed down. Maybe he realized how much money me and my friends had spent there during the past six months or so... ;-) He actually came and congratulated me, and then he said that me and my friends could get free drinks for the rest of the night! It was a memorable night - although some things are a bit "foggy" for some reason - that night almost 33 years ago. Terence trent D'Arby, Sign Your Name, good friends, party, turning 18, my whole life ahead of me... Sorry for "Wall of text"!

nice try, but i really don't think he ever has had a monolithic ego. personally i think his name change is part of a Spiritual Journey that includes transcending ego. but i don't know the man personally so that's just a guess. in any event not i'm not him. if you don't believe me i'd be more than happy to arrange a meet and greet ; )

Paige Mills No, his talent was definitely recognized when he came on the scene but his arrogance at that time put people off him. Also Terence burnt himself out and realised that he did not enjoy being a part of the fame etc. He says this in an article in an interview he gave and explains why he also changed his name. This man had talent in the bucket load and still does but he likes to remain under the radar these days.

Fortunately you have got Someone who relies on you We started out as friends But the thought of you just caves me in The symptoms are so deep It is much too late to turn away We started out as friends Sign you name across my heart I want you to be my baby Sign your name across my heart I want you to be my lady Time I'm sure will bring Disappointments in so many things It seems to be the way When your gambling cards on love you play I'd rather be in Hell With you baby than in cool Heaven It seems to be the way Sign you name across my heart I want you to be my baby Sign your name across my heart I want you to be my lady Birds never look into the sun Before the day is done Oh the light shines brighter On a peaceful day Stranger blue leave us alone We don't want to deal with you We'll shed our stains showering In the room that makes the rain All alone with you Makes the butterflies in me arise Slowly we make love And the earth rotates To our dictates Slowly we make love Hey Sign your name across my heart (sign your name) I want you to be my baby (be my baby) Sign your name across my heart I want you to be my lady (Sign your name, sign your name) Sign you name across my heart I want you to be my baby Sign your name across my heart I want you to be my lady Sign you name across my heart I want you to be my baby Sign your name across my heart

When this song was released I was a teenager and it quickly became my favorite song. I especially love the lyrics "All alone with you, makes the butterflies in me arise" 🦋 as they are one of my most favorite creatures and they were my subject matter for art class, taking photographs of them, developing the photos then painting or sketching the butterflies from the photos I'd taken. I have loved this song ever since and it reminds me of losing the person I loved the most -- my fiance killed in a car accident. I was never the same person after his death. I struggle to go on without him, and he left this world 22 years ago, but he always shows me he is around in the form of butterflies, whether actual real butterflies or pictures, ornaments, tattoos, on clothing, etc ---- it's my sign from him that he watches over me.
