@@53hank TLDR; it's about a boy showing a girl a more positive outlook on life, and to enjoy your youth while you can In this analysis, I'll mostly examine everything line by line, and give a full explanation at the end. The main characters that we'll focus on are the boy and the girl, both presumably in middle school. The first part of the song highlights the girl's outlook. She is incredibly bored with her life, but wants a purpose to it. It isn't until the boy comes along and asks her on a "date" to the "town of jade". During this "date", the boy will show the girl a new outlook on life, and give it a new meaning. The line "spring is coming after all" is a metaphor which describes their youth blossoming, or their youth starting to "spring". The town of jade is also a metaphor, describing their youth. This will be mentioned later on. "So I fell into a deep slumber, and once my senses returned, I was floating in the air surrounded by light. Towards heaven I fall, perpendicular to the ground, skirt fluttering, flipped headlong." This entire line represents the girls reaction to this sudden new way of life. She views it as this intense feeling - like falling- which can be scary. "It won't stop. I can't stop this impulse of mines. But if there were a love that could..." It's difficult for me to interpret this line, but I can only assume that this refers to the girl falling for the boy, and if a love could replicate the intense feeling she felt before. "if only tomorrow the world would just end; a meteorite would just fall from the sky, and burn everything, burn everything to the ground - or so I wish..." This refers to the girl's previous mundane, pessimistic outlook on life, in contrast to what the boy has shown her. "Come over here. Don't worry, it's safe. Hide in here." This could be a reference to the line before. I presume it's the boy sheltering the girl from the "meteorites"- which could be symbolism for growing up. "And through a deserted burnt field, the two of us go swimming." I believe this could also be a metaphor, contrasting how even though the world "is ending", these two are still able to push it aside and find something positive out of this situation. The three paragraphs before highlight the girl's journey from being a pessimist to an optimist. "I take my parasol, swing it around." "I don't want to grow up. There's not a single good thing about it." The parasol is a symbolism for her youth, as in she's clinging onto it. "We are, in this town, surely being given the chance to start over once again." Keep in mind, this "town of jade" is a made up place, and as mentioned before, meant to symbolize their youth. "Being given the chance to start over once again", represents the girl's chance at being a child once again; a chance at not wasting her youth again. "Bright and kind, our normal lives overflow with happiness. This line tells us how the girl's life has completely changed for the better. "You are my only light - always have and always will be. So for being with me, thank you." This line tells us how grateful the girl is for the boy showing her a better way of life. It could also be in reference to the romantic feeling the girl had for the boy, as mentioned earlier. "Your hand slip through as they fade." This line is difficult for me to interpret, so I can only assume it's something to do with the boy no longer being here, and the girl having to get through with only herself. This is "literally" shown to us at the end of the video, when the boy cuts their "telephone cup." All in all, this song is about the girl's journey into having a more positive outlook on life. It starts off with her being a pessimist (viewing the world as boring) until the boy invites her on a date to the fictional town of jade. The boy shows her a new view on life, and to be an optimist. This (being in complete contrast to how the girl was before) is a new and intense feeling for her. And as they are in middle school, going through adolescence, you can imagine they'd develop feelings for one another. Even after all of this, the girl is still clinging onto her mundane view on life, wishing for the world to just end. The boy protects her from this negative outlook though, and tells her to always look on the bright side of life. The girl then realizes the amount of "life" she has wasted being mundane and boring. She realizes that all this time, she could've been having fun, but instead spent it being pessimistic. The girl realizes that when she grows up, she won't be able to have fun anymore, so she tries to cling onto her youth as best as she can. The girl's life has completely changed because of the boy. She is thankful for all the things mentioned previously. But all good things must come to an end, as shown when the boy "disappears", presumably from moving away, as they're still in middle school. Of course, this is all my speculation. This song could have a completely different meaning, but this was the best that I was able to interpret it.
