There are many sarcophagi belonging to different periods and geographies that welcomed us before we came to the Istanbul Archeology Museum. In this video, we will try to understand the beliefs and lives of people who lived in that period with some examples of Sidon sarcophagi. Sarcophagi are hollow chests that can be compared to coffins. It can be made of chipped stone, as well as from different materials such as clay or metal. Since sarcophagi take a long time to produce and are expensive, they were used only for the wealthy or important people during their time. As there are examples where people from the same family were buried in the same sarcophagus at different times. There are also sarcophagi that were emptied by grave robbers and later used for different purposes.
