This is a sim[ple thing that can show young people how the world works in all sorts of ways, something which is sadly lacking in my opinion in the digital age. My theory is if you can engage the mind to think a slightly different way it will open up more ideas across a wider range of subjects and make things a tad more interesting than 1+1!! hope you enjoy the new content coming soon

I still don’t understand how an old man has this much knowledge about sand castles
@SandcastleAndy4 жыл бұрын
Good question - I have a great habit of learning about the things that matter IN THE BIG PICTURE with a subject. (some people call it an obsession and say - why?, who cares?) but i wanted to know why my sandcastles can be built to 7ft and remain solid! So my second rule, (after keep it simple stupid which does not apply!!LOL) is "if you don't know something - ask or get help from someone who does! - we all do this but my ability, developed over many, many years is to find THE person who can help me the most by sharing the nitty gritty details that build the big picture. I want to ask the big questions and if you do that you get answers to all the small ones! My knowledges come from over 30 years of working alongside people in all sorts of industries - mainly outdoors, who were able to give me snippets of information that linked together like a honeycomb. and, in a lot of cases crossed over across many subjects - like - earthmoving, drainage, farming, landscape design, landscape architecture, engineering, fabrication, wood working, housebuilding, and alongside this I do have a nasty habit of looking for more uses for one single item that just what they were designed for - like Ceran wrap - amazing stuff, food, but then hurricane protection, securing abnormal loads to making sure that wooden boxes when used as HUGE forms for sandcastle competitions don't leak when you fill them with water! so in answer to you question of half an hour ago - LOL I know so much because i ask questions on a massive array of subjects and want precise answers as to why they work - there is no substitute for experience, and the people around you have a wealth of it - you just have to ask the question - whether its perceived as stupid of not as this starts a communication trail that doesn't really end - I have always been "locally famous" for this reason as i tend to learn from people directly around me. Some people want to share - and fully understand "when we Share, We grow, others don't - and that doesn't matter because the do's MASSIVELY OUTWEIGH THE DON'TS I am also happy to learn, even when discovering i am wrong - which is most important - have a great day on the beach and keep watching!

@SandcastleAndy6 жыл бұрын
what about building sand? - it has to be angular (also known as "sharp"), not sub angular - I don't know how to explain that to a Swedish building sand supplier! but basically river sand with clay is good and any sharp sand without granules will do..just try to find that and let me know! - I will see if i can find someone who knows about Swedish sand for you. Keep trying as #wedontdoboring
@Aetila6 жыл бұрын
Andy Hancock Many thanks Andy for explaining the difference. I would call it some kind of quartz sand we used to have around these lakes, it's mostly grey granite sand. I'm very new to this stuff, only a few weeks ago I started to look closer to sand castle art, I love castles and I watch how easily one could work with high quality beach sand but our sand is totally different, not so nice and smooth. It's pretty funny to think what sand you got there because that would cost hundreds of swedish crowns per kilo in the stores here, and you got millions of tons laying around there, for free, lol. I have to examine closely what we have here so I subscribed. Many thanks for the info!
@Aetila6 жыл бұрын
Andy Hancock I was thinking about an idea. (I'm an assemblage artist, used to work with plaster cast, among others) Since you create such wonderful castles it would be interesting to test if you could make some of them permanent, in a smaller format, at home or a secluded area. The idea is to mix in some cement into the sand (I don't know the ratio though) and form a castle, then let it dry (but it needs daily spraying of water during a week to avoid cracks) and see if it would stand permanently. I don't know if the sand would keep it's smoothness after mixing with cement (say fifty fifty or much less cement) and if you could form it as usual, or it would retain hardness but I think it would be interesting if this would work somehow. I love when a great castle work is preserved. Here in Sweden we have endless amount of rocks, as it were a rock garden so I will try to make small stone plaster cast castles (if I can, I only tested with paper and it's great) and place them out as pixie castles hehe, making the environment into a magic place. Pity that I didn't think about it earlier, now I have to learn castle architecture from ground, but I catching up. Thanks for sharing your inspiring and beautiful art!

@SandcastleAndy5 жыл бұрын
Hi Candy Flossy - awesome name btw - well when you put the first bit of sand in the bucket - 6-8 inches you pour water into the center of it then chop it up with a shovel or in smaller buckets, stir it round with your hand and while holding it smack the side of the bucket - sand will compact, expel the air and settle into a hard base, unless you are in navarre beach. also take out any shell sediment or whole shells when filing the bucket where are you..in the world

Jason Anhorn hi Jason..if you are experienced just go win a few amateur division comps and you will get invited to step up..unfirtunately there is no league or promotional system to jump right in unless you know another sandcastle "master" (as they like to be called!).. amateur comps don't pay anything..but get you seen..the best two comps to aim for are the north American championships aT ft Myers in Florida which is at thanksgiving time and sandfest at port Aransas in Texas..hope this helps..i don't do many competitions as I haven't got the time..hope this helps
