It depends whether you are talking about pigment or light. Adding together the three primary colors of light (red, blue, and green) will give you white light, and the absence of light is darkness, or black. So yes, what you said is correct, but they basically say the same thing. By saying that black is the absence of color it is also implied that black is the absence of light.
