Just watched up to 6.5 min's so far and the one difference when you reach the softer sand at the top of the climb, apart from Oran's wider tyres meaning more contact patch, is that Oran uses less right foot. Simon, you may need a little extra right foot due to the extra weight of the 110, but go a little easier on it.
@LandRoverDrive3 жыл бұрын
Yeah one not sure what happened there, but as I mentioned I suspect the stone had a big thing to say about me driving up. But my MT tires being narrow with a pretty fresh tread, combined with the extra 200kg, cuts up the top layer on the sand sending it downwards.

Hi Simon, Not sure if you talked about this before. But I wonder what the bag is that hangs on the handrail at the back door driver side. Is it a first aid kit?

Hey Joeri, that’s correct. Easy to get to if someone gets hurt and easy for others to find if they need to get it. 👍 I got a spare one from my Norwegian Home Guard service, and it for a lot of great stuff for what a first responder would need. 😊

I drive a discovery series 2 with 2in lift and everyone tells me to go skinnier from my 285-75-16s but when I look at them they really aren't super wide they are just wider than really skinny kind. I see a lot of Jeep drivers over here where I live that have much wider tires than me so I feel like mine are the skinnier kind. I don't doubt the science behind skinnier being better but my problem is what if there is too skinny? What if 255 85 16 is wanting to dig more than my 285 75 maybe mine are skinny enough? When the truck is parked and you look they don't look super wide like I said they just look whiter than some of the super skinny kind but compared to all the Jeeps they look skinny what do you think? I just want the best traction and sometimes I feel like maybe mine are optimal since the Jeep guys call them skinny and the Land Rover guys call them wide maybe they are just perfect in the middle? I would be afraid to go skinnier and then start digging because right now with how wide they are they never slip because they are too wide they always catch traction perfect even first year going up really deep blue stuff slow. I get the idea about skinny I just get worried that sometimes people don't take into context the weight of the vehicle and they keep saying skinnier skinnier skinnier when maybe I have skinny enough
@LandRoverDrive Жыл бұрын
I would choose the size depending on what you are using the car for most. And if you like the look of a bit wider tie then keep the wider tire. If your really want to float on like snow, you would have to go up to at least some wide 35”s. Still those won’t float in all conditions. Check out the Arctic trucks in Iceland, they got some wide 44”s made for floating. 😉 When it comes to traction the length of the track left behind is the key, not the width, and depending on what you drive through the narrow tire will plow through while the wider will push more mud or snow in front of it if it can’t float. 😊 The 255/85-16 just gave the Defender the perfect allrounder, so nice to drive when overlanding/touring and enough grip when off-roading for my easy going off-roaring. Less fuel usage and the gearing was still okay. If you are in doubt, use up the tires you have now and then go narrower next time if you not quite happy with your current setup. 👍😊

@@LandRoverDrive oh yeah totally I agree with all of that! Yeah I'll probably just stick with this size. So far it's done so well and when I really look at the truck from behind they don't look super wide I just know they are considered wide in the Disco world. It's funny how the science behind why didn't narrow makes perfect sense but people set the Benchmark based on what can fit. Like a Jeep Rubicon that weighs as much as my Disco would consider these Narrows simply because his fenders fit bigger. That's where I kind of started overthinking like I wanted what's actually optimal regardless of trimming to fit or not. And when I hear of the Old Timers going super skinny I keep reminding myself all of those vehicles or over a thousand pounds lighter usually

Interessant og rettferdig. Jeg tenkte først at bilene var svært ulike, men det er de ikke. 200 Tdi har vel 250 nm, og Td5 har 300 nm, men dette blir spist opp av større vekt, så sammenligningen er helt ok.
@erikiversen44973 жыл бұрын
@LandRoverDrive3 жыл бұрын

Wider is never better. The length of the footprint is what matters. Tyre pressure is the key.
@LandRoverDrive3 жыл бұрын
So very true! 🙂👍 But overall your surface area does matter if the ground is semisolid, as you won't dig your self down. That's why I think Ørjan had the upper hand her and the fact that I had not aired down. 😅😅

Hey Adam, we don't got them actually. Only regular webasto for me and Ørjan in our Discovery 3 and 4. We haven't needed it yet, but we always drive more than we camp. That will change this year so I will be looking into the same. I see other overlanders in Norway doing different solutions. One with built in with exhaust going out of the car, often Defenders. And others have their own box, like aluminum box with the heater in, which they place on the ground and take the warm air pipe into their roof top tents. I will do some more research on this this year as I find "living" is the worst part when overlanding in the cold. Not driving, making food at the fire, but just regular living. Will see what I will do. I have seen some handy gass-heaters too so there is a lot of options. Sorry I can't help out more, but hopefully I can later in the year.

Hey David, there is a bit, in the TD5 favour originally. But with about 200kg more and the 200TDI having a little tune it's about the same. Main difference I feel is that the TD5 is a bit more RPM happy then the TDI. We have done some side by side pull on straits and uphill in 3-4 gear and they are super similar. 👍🙂 I wouldn't mind seeing the TD5 with a TD5-inside tune. braaaaaaap. 😂
