Sandals of the Gospel | Armor of God Pt 4 | EP139

In Armor of God Pt 4: Sandals of the Gospel, Walking The Text founder Brad Gray explores what our shoes reveal about who we are. A Roman soldier’s sandals were all about grip. The spiked underside stabilized and grounded him in the field of battle. Because a soldier always wore sandals as part of his armor, he was ready to spring into action at a moment’s notice, and to stand firm when the enemy was pressing in.
Likewise, Paul suggests that the gospel of peace is what makes the believer stable, grounded, and ready to spring into action at a moment’s notice. Peace, in Hebrew, is about everything being in its proper place. Unfortunately, the Ephesian church wasn’t grounding its identity in the gospel of peace. Instead, the Jews and Gentiles in Ephesus were grounding their identity in their ethnicity.
Anytime we seek our identity outside of Jesus and his gospel of peace, we open ourselves to chaos and instability. And we have a destructive tendency to root our identity in our work, in our relationships, in the approval of others, or in any number of things that could give way at any moment. When we ground our identity in things that aren’t stable, it’s nearly impossible to stand firm against the forces of evil. In Armor of God Pt 4: Sandals of the Gospel, you’ll see just how crucial it is to locate your identity in the peace of God rather than the unstable realities of life.

Wow! Never heard of the Identity / Calling / Assignment breakdown before. This makes so much sense. This was a great teaching. I can picture a Roman army plotting for battle against their enemy and seeking the best place to station their troops, somewhere they would be protected and find strength, and juat like Jesus is our firm foundation we should be standing in what He has done. On to the next video I cant get enough of your teaching!

Thanks for another amazing episode. Yahweh has taught me that there can be no shalom without Shabbat (cease = rest). Sadly, most Churches don't expand on this concept. Sabbath-keeping in all its fullness is an integral part of our ongoing Christian identity and walk - it is something God commands us to honour, even under the New Covenant (Hebrews 3-4). Your series on the Sabbath is worth mentioning here. Shalom
