When Burnside learns he is to be replaced as SIS Director of Operations, he decides to go down fighting.
The Sandbaggers is a spy drama that ran on the British ITV Network for three seasons from 1978-1980. It stars Roy Marsden, Ray Lonnen, Jerome Willis, Ian MacNaughtan, and Bob Sherman. It was created by Ian Mackintosh and the theme song was composed by Roy Budd.

One part that has been overlooked in the above is the blatant classism which is prevalent in the series, and in particular this episode. Examples: In one part Burnside is commenting to Jeff Ross how school ties are resurfacing again, noting his rival attended Winchester whereas he attended a grammar school. While he is recovering in the hospital, his ex wife's mother visits and suggests he get back with Belinda, hinting he could advance in the service with her by his side, as she was of a higher social class.

It would have been nice had there been additional episodes. But since there was a thru=line, or story arc, thru all the seasons of the show, there is a real risk that it might have 'jumped the shark', that any more episodes might have been just a cash grab, instead of allowing the series to reach an end on a high note.
