Sandblasting and Industrial Painting of Steel Tanks(Aqueduct Filters)

Our crew is sandblasting the in/outside of three Φ2200 tanks to SA 2.5 metal cleanliness.
A coat of epoxy is applied inside and outside using Airless.
Following that all outside surfaces are topcoated with a PU finish while the insides are coated with pure epoxy certified for potable water.

I have to paint steel tanks with picco dtm paint at my job and have a really hard time not getting runs on them. With this paint you gotta move and spray really fast...

Not while using the Airless unit. On PU some 5% at most for a smoother finish

You must use supplied air respirator with that topcoat. Filter cartridges do not protect you from isocyanates.

Indeed, you are right.mthis is not the way to apply a topcoat on such big surfaces. Airmix application is far better and quicker, furthermore there are far more adjustments possible with airmix. A well trained and experienced sprayer could also use airless, the danger here is too much DFT which causes cooking blisters due to solvents not being able to exit the layer quick enough.

No, sorrynfor the misunderstanding.in this case the term cooking has nothing to do with heat. It is an paintrelated term to describe the effect, which looks like cooking. It means that the overdose of solvent due to a too high layerthickness, forces itself out through the already drying film and thus causing very small blisters, also called pinholes.
