We Namdhari Sikhs, with the order of our present Guru, Thakur Dalip Singh Ji, had requested government in September that Dr. Manmohan Singh should be honoured with Bharat Ratan. When our demand was ignored by the government, we organized a press conference in October to highlight the urgency of our request. We specifically highlighted the reason for urgency to immediately honour Dr. Manmohan Singh with Bharat Ratan during his lifetime, because he was aged and suffering from health issues. Unfortunately, government did not heed our appeal. Even after our press conference, most of the media did not publish it with prominence. Now, after Dr. Manmohan Singh’s death, we see whole media is advocating for granting Bharat Ratan to him. We stand by our given reason “Any award given in one’s lifetime provides greater joy and satisfaction to the recipient”. The government has already awarded Bharat Ratan to Advani ji, and Parnab Mukherjee of Congress party during their lifetimes. Then, Why Dr. Manmohan Singh who has more achievements than Parnab Mukherjee and others was not awarded Bharat Rattan during his lifetime? We are sure that government will now honour him with Bharat Ratan. But, the significance of this award is diminished after he passed away.
