Sanders' Scary History of Socialist Praise

Bernie Sanders may be our next President! He leads in the betting for the Democratic nomination.
But some of his ideas are frightening. Senator Sanders now talks of "democratic socialism” but he was once full of praise for violent socialist regimes including Castro's Cuba, the Soviet Union, and Nicaraguan Sandinistas.
----
Don't miss a single video from Stossel TV. Sign up here: johnstossel.activehosted.com/f/1
----
Stossel producer Maxim Lott compiled Sanders' most gushing praise of socialist regimes.
Of Fidel Castro, Sanders said: "He educated the kids, gave them health care -- totally transformed the society."
Sanders spent his honeymoon in the Soviet Union and said he was "impressed by their public transportation system. In fact it was the cleanest, most effective mass transit system I’ve ever seen... the stations themselves were absolutely beautiful, including many works of art, chandeliers that are beautiful..."
He gushed more: "I was impressed by the youth programs that they have... cultural programs which go far beyond what we do in this country."
Even more effusive praise went to Nicaragua's socialist revolution. Sanders lauded the confiscation and redistribution of property, which he called "...land reform - giving, for the first time in their lives, real land to farmers so that they can have something that they grow. Nobody denies that they are making significant progress."
Today, the lack of progress is so clear that even Sanders hedges that he is " very concerned about the anti-democratic policies of the Ortega government.”

Yes, the "management" was so badly handled promising provision where it could not possibly be done so. That is one 'why' that USSR fell. Eventually, if you redistribute enough, there is nothing left to uh...steal. It is an idealized economic model that is not grounded in reality. China is only barely able to stand by re-working that plan by calling it "with Chinese characteristics". They still had to take over Taiwan and Hong Kong and create several "special administrative districts" in order to prop up their economy and give up the "iron rice bowl". They are headed to an even bigger fall than Russia. It won't be pretty. I am already sad.

The Cuban Literacy Campaign (Spanish: Campaña Nacional de Alfabetización en Cuba) was an eight-month long effort to abolish illiteracy in Cuba after the Cuban Revolution.[1][2] It began in April 1961 and ended on December 22, 1961, successfully raising Cuba's literacy rate to nearly one-hundred percent.[3][2] Before 1959 the official literacy rate for Cuba was between 60% and 76%, largely because of lack of education access in rural areas and a lack of instructors.[4]

I think he expands upon that statement just afterward. He's not saying bread lines are better than being able to purchase your own food, he's saying that it's good that the government is addressing the problem in a direct way and helping the citizens. Bread lines are a good thing when a famine hits that can't be prevented, and not having a philanthropic person living nearby who stocked up on food means starvation. The government was addressing the need of the citizenry instead of just leaving them to starve, which Sanders considered good. Not that bread lines are better than buying your own food. This video in itself is fair and gives Sanders a fair shake for the most part, but it seems there's an obsession with taking everything he says in the worst possible way. There's a few different ways to parse out what he says, and it seems to be rooted in this difficulty in hearing past the first sentence, when he clarifies his statements and directly refutes the knee-jerk reaction that everyone had from what he just said. It pays to keep listening.

However, surface transport was decrepit- the trams and trolleybuses were dirty and looked decades out of date. The metro (and the larger one in Moscow) were designed mainly as showpieces to impress gullible Westerners. I'm a Mexican living in Latin America, I'd dare any of them to live in Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia or Cuba; I'd love to see how long their love of Socialism lasts before they starve to death; but this would apply to any Socialist country in history not just in Latin America as Socialism has failed miserably literally everywhere: Hungary, East Germany, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, Albania, Yugoslavia, Somalia, Cambodia, Poland, Zimbabwe, Vietnam, Romania, Mongolia, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Nicaragua (and with 85-100 million of deaths due to Socialism it's also the most lethal ideology in history besides the most failed). Besides, sending Bernie to a country that is actually Socialist would be no loss for the United States, for he has never started a business or held a paid job outside the government in his life: he has lived his entire life off the taxpayers' money during which he became a millionaire and never passed or authored a single piece of relevant legislation

@@erex9875 Due to Capitalism the world's poverty rate, according to the UN, has been halved. Most of the "failures" in Capitalist societies can be directly tied to Socialist programs, policies, regulations, and government corruption. Capitalism is an economic system, not a moral system. Capitalism has as much to do with morality as gravity does. Gravity doesn't care about morality. If you step off of a building, gravity will do what it does. Capitalism is the same way. Blaming the immoral actions of people on Capitalism is idiotic. But Socialism ties economics to a morality, which is why it always ends in corruption and the abuse of government force.

The US hasnt been capitalist since 1871 when government became a corporation. It is *Corporatism* or "crony capitalism". Socialism is an ideology when the cabal controls political, economic, and social control. Capitalism is only an economic structure.

I’m from Nicaragua and its sad how we are seeing our country fall apart in front of our eyes because people believe the lies socialist/communist politicians sell. As the video said “he has never taken back his praises”, we all know his true political ideology. Those who believe all the ideas he is selling clearly have never lived in one of the socialist country’s he has praised all these years.

Its one of those statements that can be interpreted anyway you want. If the country is already incredibly poor and it just removed some oppressive regime that was starving citizens, sharing what they have is a good thing. He wasn't saying that a country that already has a lot should be reduced to having bread lines. So, bread lines aren't the goal but they are a sign of people sharing for the betterment of the whole during a time of need.
