17:00 Reading Terry Pratchett's Night Watch right now, and it gets into time travel. He handles this masterfully: 1) He has the time traveler explain relevant info using his own worldbuilding lingo, 2) The time traveler says, for certain things, "I can't tell you that because it will mess up time" basically, and 3) When the guy learning about this is very confused (because Pratchett is doing a little hand-waving), he says, "magic."

@@samiam.402 - I beg your pardon that my comment was so readily parsable as “stern”. My primary observation was intended to be the basic decency of that entire roomful of people. One doesn’t often encounter a crowd of any significant size that isn’t spoiled by the typical demographics of jerks at large.

Careful with the 'info dump in dialogue' thing. If it's a Watson type character, that's going to allow some leeway, but even there, you can't just dump dump dump. And if it's just any other character, careful with making them a mouthpiece. You might strip away their characterisation. Rather use things like having characters go through the info in order to figure out plot type stuff, or argue, or poke fun at, etc. You can always use interaction with things as an opportunity to describe it and things pertaining to it.

I'm actually filled with an ironic panic. I mostly write in 3rd Person Omniscient, because I'm used to being a Dungeon Master. It may have some dangerous implications on how I write, since I don't give as solid delineations of thoughts as he outlined.
@LeaksHater9 ай бұрын
Maybe it's something similar to Third Person Objective? And I wouldn't be scared - I think that as long as you know what you are doing and why you are doing that (how that enhances the story) you will be able to write a good story (at least relatively good). Maybe that type of writing will be extremely appealing to other dungeon masters or players. If so, that could become a very strong advantage.
