So, So good. My only regret is not having a lot more crane meat in the freezer.

7:21 why not beef tallow? as you said, the butter scorches pretty easily
@strixoutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Beef tallow would work also although may smoke easily too depending (Wagyu for example). I've migrated to using some peanut oil and a bit of butter. Having better results with that now.

A weed burner...lmao you so special Jess. The Crane looks incredible good job
@strixoutdoors3 жыл бұрын
It's called a weed burner at Harbor Freight... not talking about the MJ type either..hahahaha. It's a (prickly) pear burner in my parts though. I don't think most people actually know why it has that name.

I got another one coming soon of the thighs I cooked. Was trying to think what M P would say and I don't think I did it justice but it was soo so good.

Where’d you get the crane meat?

I hunted them and shot my limit here in Texas.

Anyone else notice the blood and juice on the cutting board made a bird shape 😂

Hahahaha.. i see it now. I've got a crane hunt lined up for this Sunday. I hope we have some luck. Been looking forward to it for a long time.

Protected here in Michigan. Theyre taking over fields and crops by the thousands tho. Idk why they wont open a hunting season for them? They get hit by cars daily and ruin crops. Not to mention shitting alover yards if you live on a lake.
@strixoutdoors11 ай бұрын
I hope they do open a season for them in your state. They are fun to hunt and really good to eat.

Wont you get lead poisoning?
@strixoutdoors3 жыл бұрын
No. We actually hunt sandhills with steel shot as the season coincides with goose season and we sometimes get shots at geese. In any case, I try my best to pick out any pellets that could possibly get left in the meat.

weird i'd expected it to be more like chicken, instead its like steak.

Yes, very much like steak. That's why they call it "ribeye in the sky"

It looks more red in the video than in person. I cook them a bit more for the kids but like any venison, you really don't want to overcook the meat.

The butter just burnt immediately

It is a fine line I've found and some butter burns quicker than others. I've started using peanut oil with some butter added and dropped the temp a bit.

Yes and it's very good. Such an awesome and interesting bird. Would know anything about them until I started hunting them.

Was lucky to try some for the first time this past weekend and it was AMAZING. Tasted almost indistinguishable from beef. Very very close to a ribeye, but not as fatty. Not sure which I prefer now, honestly
