Moving Sheep, Spreading Manure & Shipping Market Lambs
Another couple days of what my life looks like here on the farm. When I’m not in the fields, or lambing…its chores, observations, weighing lambs and shipping lambs.
I’m also on call for Mark.
And sometimes its literally just to be an uber driver.
#sheep #manure #lambs
Question!
Do you guys prefer videos more often, or only once a week?

Thank you so much Sandi! I want to go live on your farm and be your slave labor! :) I have only 3 sheep in a very urban area with no one to teach me so these videos are so helpful. When you replace your older ewes with your new younger ones, then what do you do with the older ones? Do you take them to the sale as well? What age do you cull them? I have an older ewe and a younger one and a nice ram. Wondering when my old ewe is too old to breed. Thank you so much! Praying blessings on you and your farm.

I think it's adorable how happy Sandi is that her ewe lambs like her! I remember on one of her first vids, she said that she wanted a barn of 500 sheep that all loved her the way Ruthie did. She's not there yet, but even a few years down the line, her numbers of sheep that love her are slowly growing, and I'm not even talking about the Golden Girls and Tomatoes. I'm talking about Willow, Ruby Sue, even little Pita.

Love your videos- I've watched since you only had a few hundred subscribers :) Do the prices that you get at auction fluctuate a lot? Could you share how much, on average, you sell a lamb for? Do the buyers know who the producer is so they can look for your lambs at the auction? Thanks!

Hi Sandi! Do your sheep and cows produce enough manure to cover your fields? You asked about content suggestions and I would love to see a video on the cows. I've been binging your channel and have to say you are amazing. I understand now the sheep barn designs and where the cows go outside. The organization required, health management, feed management, etc is unreal. Add your caring and loving attitude towards the animals and I am truly impressed. Well done!
@SandiBrock
@SandiBrock 4 жыл бұрын
We don't have enough sheep manure to do all our acres, but we use my in-law's chicken manure also. So we do get across the fields that are scheduled for manure (weather permitting). Not all our crops get manure each year. Maybe a third... and it gets done every three years.

You're spoiling us with these uploads! Also love seeing that chicken operations almost everywhere look basically the same. Always kinda wondered where they stored all the poop from the hens. Also, you have some seriously adorable lambs. Looking forward to seeing what the next group gives ya! I loved this video Sandi. I really enjoy it when you explain things step-by-step. For a city boy (old man) like me it's wonderful to understand the reasons why you do things (like why you rearranged the pens in the barn), then how you do them, then showing the results. Even watching you do the little things like hooking up the trailer are enjoyable. I must admit I was hoping to hear Mark say "manure"! I hope things go well for you at your function. Cheers! :-)

I'm had to stop a few minutes in , I once asked my vet (after a gate fell over), "do all your farms use twine to tie gates?" She said yes every one of them! My father tells me constantly to use a chain but I recently had a calf jump a gate and get her leg caught, she was fine, but if it would have been tied instead of chained my knife would have been on that twine before you could blink twice! I think twice now on where I use twine vs chain.

It depends on the farm, she has a large predator population so it's not really good for buissnes to have the sheep outside where they can be killed. Farms with a lower predator population have their sheep pastured or are an indoor/outdoor operation.

I just got 50,000 ton of litter. I would spread every year but I can never find enough, sometimes none. Last time I spread all my fields was 4 years ago. Last year and the year before I was lucky to find 10,000. I was very impressed by the farm you bought from. I like that it was piled indoor and looks like it’s been processed and cleaned. I buy straight out of the coop which has stones and other debris. I then have to dump it in my galvanized heat house. It’s a lot of work.

In a future video could you explain the purpose of your sheep dog in the barn? I imagine in the field they do a yeoman job of herding and controlling the flock. But in the barn what is the dog's purpose? I see it jumping back and forth over the wall, into the pen and then out and then in to the pen and then out. But I don't know if he actually has a purpose or if he's just playing around.
