The scenes in the carriage are so powerful. Probably my favorites of Series 3, excluding the clifftop scenes of course. The prolonged silences are so full of emotion. I'm so thankful they did not rush the dialogue. A lot is revealed here, but the silences hint at all the things still left unsaid. Also, they show so much respect and admiration for one another when they listen well to one another. Charlotte is a grown-up here, not the girl she was on her first-ever trip to Sanditon and not a hired governess. She is his equal in every way. They are a great team. I am full of respect and affection for these two!

I love the conversation in tbe carriage. It clears a lot of things up for Xander. She’s basically telling him it’s an arranged marriage that she has to go through with. And she didn’t want Augusta to suffer the same fate. But what’s most interesting is when he asks what he should have done differently and she responds you could have listened and not decided for her…. It’s a overview of what went wrong for them too. And his tone as he asks …..❤❤❤ sigh…!

The pauses here were so beautifully executed by both actors.

I think Charlotte and Xander’s conversation in the carriage - (outward and return journey to Falmouth) - is to me so revealing. It’s where Charlotte finally acknowledges that she cannot marry Ralph. The discussion about Augusta knowing her own mind and how young women of that era were viewed i.e. strangers to their own minds and decisions being made by male family members on their behalf to assure security inc her own father are about Augusta but also self revelatory. She is ‘telling’ Xander how she came to be with Ralph. The same again when she admits telling Augusta to follow her heart or she would regret it and the emotion, her voice breaking and hesitation after she says she cannot bear the thought of Augusta being trapped in a loveless marriage. These discussions all point to how she’s feeling in that moment. This scene was so poignant because you sense how trapped she feels and it genuinely brought a lump to my throat🥹By the time they arrive back in Sanditon however you sense she has chosen to follow her own advice and hence seems relieved when Ralph points out he is not the one she chose. Brilliant, sublime acting again by the two leads. Well done Rose and Ben 😊

When Charlotte says “the thought of Augusta being trapped in a loveless marriage, unable to be with the man she…..” Colbourne’s face is like “*ahem*…you were saying?????”

I think this scene is talking about two parallel accounts. One is Colbourne's relationship with Augusta and one with Charlotte. When he says "What could I have done differently" I think he is also asking Charlotte what he could have done differently with her. She of course says you could have listened instead of making up her mind for her. Meaning he could have discussed his feelings with her instead of making the decision for her that he wasn't good enough for her. I thought this was a pretty powerful moment if you really listen to what is said.

Excellent analysis of the scene ❤❤❤. He, just like the girls, had must to learn from Charlotte. It really was a brilliant series.

Where to begin. So much incredible communication going on here in the carriage: Charlotte: “Too often young women are thought to be strangers to their own minds. It is left to fathers or uncles to choose the path their life should take. As if we require saving from ourselves.” My comment: Let’s hear it for young women and their ability to choose their own life paths !!! 🎉 I love this scene for so many reasons but also because, Yes, Charlotte is imparting so much wisdom to Alexander but she is also acknowledging that in her own life, if she marries Ralph, she also faces the prospect of “being trapped in a loveless marriage.” ❤❤❤

What should I have done different; was Zander asking about Augusta’s situation or him and Charlotte. Both?

Thank you so much Susan for giving us the different segments so that we can dissect. Your subscribers are very intelligent and so much into this series. I read every single comment. Today is the finale and I feel as though it's a funeral service I have to attend. This was so different from all other Regency series I have seen. Clean yet sexy and deep emotional love, marriage and its problems, betrayal, lies and mannerisms of each individual. Sigh, give us more.❤😢

Once again, thank you for the wonderful work you did in publishing the films. I totally agree with what everyone said in their comments. There is one more episode left. I enjoy reading everyone's comments. In my opinion, many recent stories have been written by people who believe in the power of the collective unconscious and constantly consider the merits of all points of view. I also believe that Sanditon makes us to feel happy, sad, and mysterious and that unexpected events can occur and that things can turn out differently than they should. Life and love may be difficult, and so many expectations and experiences have led me to act differently than we could have.

I agree with all the comments. They have made the words “I love you” sound totally overrated and obsolete for me. So much more was conveyed, yet with few words…I’m still in awe of Sanditon ❤❤❤❤❤. Like many other fans I still feel like there is a possibility for more story telling.
