@@DjDeepfry1 No one after Copernicus learned a damn thing. The heliocentric model of the solar system should have taught us to stop being so obnoxiously self-centered. The Earth isn't the center of the universe so the Endless shouldn't have anything to do with ridiculously human-centric aspects like Dream, Despair, Death etc. You have fundamental things being represented by human forms being represented by Caucasians. No one sees a problem with that at all? Most things in the universe aren't even alive so how is Dream something so fundamental and eternal? It's sooo ego-centric and self-important. We should have moved past this crap a long time ago, yet here we are inserting a more diverse cast into LotR and Sandman instead of taking that intent to its full logical conclusion. Think about it. I initially thought the ending of the Lucifer vs Dream battle is a bit cheesy, hope defeating anti-life and Lucifer not being able to think of something that can kill hope. After re-watching that scene, I think Lucifer was not able to think anything the can kill hope because Lucifer themselves rely on hope. Lucifer has been described as having an indomitable will. Lucifer really needs that indomitable will and hope. They need their indomitable will to wage war against Heaven and the ability to hope that they can win. If Lucifer countered Dream with something that can kill hope, they're essentially saying that their own ability to hope can be killed. Maybe by not responding, Lucifer is saying that their own ability to hope can't be killed.

In some cases, bordering on R-rating. I felt they really held back in this first season. A bit disappointed how they introduced Despair in contrast to Desire, but it's understandable they didn't want to get too graphic. Once I saw interviews of how deeply Neil was involved in this series, I knew it was time to give it a chance...and I'm glad I did! The story of the Dream Lord was ahead of its time and was shackled by initially being connected to DC Supes IMO It deserved to be retold in this manner (10 eps vs. a 2.5hr movie) to give the characters better context as the story moves along. Not only does the invention of streaming benefit this content, but the world is more accepting of fluid identities (what I meant by "ahead of its time") = The story was more appreciable due to the fact such diverse representation was incorporated to tell it = great job!

You know, I'm pretty intrigued by your idea that the Vortex was breaking down the walls between the Endless' realms in addition to the barriers between dreamers' minds. Absent Brute and Glob's very particular scheme from the comic, it's a good way of headcanoning how Lyta and Hector can meet in her dreams. Also, I don't think Desire raped Unity in the show. They seem to have changed things so they more seduce her in dreams and got her pregnant through a consensual relationship much as Hector and Lyta conceived Daniel.
@riopato20092 жыл бұрын
Hey, the mention of Daniel is a spoiler! Viewers don't know yet! I doubt the show will get this far but it's possible. Also the show suggested that Desire seduced Unity in her dreams but that would mean Desire crossed Morpheus's Realm while he was imprisoned, that would've broken the kingdom rule. The books didn't break that rule and Desire raped Unity instead so I can see how Ryan got mixed up between the books and show since he's a fan of the books.

One of the most interesting things about this whole story is the mixing of myths, legends and even religion. The fates are clearly adapted from Greek Mythology whereas Lucifer is Judeo-Christian. She makes mention of eventually expanding hell all the way to the `Silver City`. This makes the motivations of the characters a bit abstract, but ultimately gives the story more depth. Desire is a really interesting character and I look forward to their development. Lucifer as well. Desire and Despair as twins is pretty brilliant as well. It's almost a play off of Buddhist theology. Desire and ignorance lie at the root of suffering (despair.) All in all, a very entertaining story that I look forward to seeing more seasons of. Eventually I'll read the comics anyway, but not just yet!

I thought it was magnificent and well done it was missing the full telling of Nada’s story but I think they’ll eventually get to it, it did not dawn on me that was Hector Hall & Hippolyta Hall where the Heroes silver scarab /Dr Fate/Sandman and Fury it was so long ago when I read it they did a great job adopting and adapting the story.

I never noticed until now, but the NPC Orpheus in the game Hades, looks like the design was inspired by how Morpheus looks in the Sandman comic.

I finished the 1st season and can't wait for the next one. Thank you for the explanations, like how Desire were connected with Nightmare etc...

A masterpiece show. There were a few things changed from the comicbook, but the TV adaptation was great with scenes that literally came from the book. Waiting for Season 2 to arrive will seem like a distant dream! 😉👍

I was on the fence of the raven Matthew at first, but seeing how they are dual opposites.....I enjoined him. I just loved all of it, binged watched all of in one day.

I'm really enjoying the series, though as someone from Liverpool, I feel like they've done a disservice to the Constantine character by not having her be a Scouser. Gender-swapped/differently named though she is, she is meant to take the place that was filled by John in the comics, and a key part of his character is his Northern, working class roots. Plus, we haven't had a proper Scouser play the Hellblazer yet in anything - it's about time!

Ok, Kevin Bacon in Tremors fucked me up. What a time to be alive.

I figured out the karmic alignment of each rogue dream this season: Gilbert/Fiddler's Green = Good. Genuinely wants to help Rose and Morpheus to the point of self-sacrifice. Gault: Morally Gray. On the run from Morpheus. Nightmare, but doesn't want to be. Creates a fantasy for Jed to escape his abusive foster home. Corinthian: Straight-up Evil. Kills without remorse and convinces others to do the same. Rescues Jed, but only as bait for his sister.

Say your prayers, little one Don't forget, my son To include everyone Tuck you in, warm within Keep you free from sin 'Til the sandman, he comes Sleep with one eye open Gripping your pillow tight Exit light Enter night Take my hand We're off to never-never land Somethings wrong, shut the light Heavy thoughts tonight And they aren't of Snow White Dreams of war, dreams of liars Dreams of dragon's fire And of things that will bite, yeah Sleep with one eye open Gripping your pillow tight Exit light Enter night Take my hand We're off to never-never land Now I lay me down to sleep Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul to keep I pray the Lord my soul to keep If I die before I wake If I die before I wake I pray the Lord my soul to take I pray the Lord my soul to take Hush, little baby, don't say a word And never mind that noise you heard It's just the beasts under your bed In your closet, in your head Exit light Enter night Grain of sand Exit light Enter night Take my hand We're off to never-never land, yeah Uh Yeah, yeah Yo, oh We're off to never-never land Take my hand We're off to never-never land Take my hand We're off to never-never land

Long time fan of the comic, and like you, had no notes for the show. It's amazing, and I think it could be Netflix's next major vehicle, like Stranger Things turned out to be.

Would also like to recommend here the beautiful audio adaptation of Sandman on Audible. It has a stacked cast headed by James McAvoy as the title character. Him and Sturridge in live action really do embody the character so well. Having recently finished the audiobooks to then see this in live action has made me a fan. Can't wait for the next season's story arcs.

I remember reading the Sandman series when they were first released. Then I picked them up in Graphic Novels years later. I was totally blown away. Still amazing!! Neil Gaiman as a wonderful imagination. ✌❤

The finale makes me think, they'll skip dream country and jump towards season of mist or perhaps combine both on season 2.

I haven't read the comics, but I don't mind removing the superheroes. It's nice to have a separate thing. Loved Neil Gaiman as the undead crow in the Cat's dream, he has a fantastic voice. His audiobooks are great, too!
