Sandomierz (pronounced [sãnˈdɔ̃mʲjɛʃ] ( listen), Latin Sandomiria) - a city in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Sandomierz County, located on the Vistula River, on seven hills (hence sometimes called "little Rome"). Sandomierz is located on the Vistula Lowland and stretches from the Sandomierz Upland to the Tarnobrzeg Plain. Most of the buildings, including the historical center, recognized as a historical monument in 2017, are located on the left bank of the Vistula, and the industrial part, called Nadbrzezie, is located on the right bank, in the Sandomierska Valley, bordering Tarnobrzeg.
Tourist trails run through the city: Cistercian, St. Jakuba, Via Jagiellonica, Wooden Architecture and the Green Velo Eastern Bicycle Trail[3].
There are several theories about the origin of the city's name. The most probable theory, however, is that the name of the city comes from the old Polish name Sędomir, widespread throughout the Slavic region (cf. Czech, Russian and Serbian Chorus: Sudomir)[7].
The town as one of the main seats of the Kingdom of Poland in the Latinized Old Polish form of Sandomir is noted in the fragment "Bolezlavus vero (...) in Wratislaw et Cracovia et in Sandomir sedes regni principales" by Gallus Anonymus in the Polish Chronicle written in the years 1112-1116.
Pieprzowe Mountains - hills in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, located near the Vistula River in the eastern part of the Sandomierz Upland, partly within the administrative borders of the city of Sandomierz, and partly in the Dwikozy commune.
I invite you to watch a video from Sandomierz, famous for Father Mateusz. We will also visit the Pepper Mountains. I recommend watching the film on a large TV and in the highest possible resolution, preferably 4K. If you liked the video, feel free to subscribe, like, comment and share :)
