I have a postcard from Sandon showing the Oriental camp cook feeding a bear! The bear, standing on his hind legs about 20 inches from the camp cook!the Altoona mine it said! I will slowly watch and appreciate the old footage of Sandon! Thank you Jonathan !

Thanks so much for adding this, Jon. I've been spending some time up around Sandon, Cody, and the mountains east of Idaho Peak. It's beautiful country, and some of the few remaining residents in Sandon have done a great job of restoring the museum component. Unfortunately the old Tin Cup restaurant burned down in a fire a few years back, as did Dr. Gomme's home, but the area is experiencing something of a renaissance with history buffs, motorcyclists, campers, tourists, hikers and so on. The old K&S line is open to bicycle touring, and the Galena Trail for hiking. Idaho Peak has great views and The Sourdough Traverse that Mount Carlyle Lodge operates is a three day provisioned ridge-top hike over Selkirk and Sandon Peaks towards Mt Carlyle itself. And then there's the back-country skiing come winter!

Hi Tyler, Were you skiing/sledding up there. Would be super interested in some information about the area. Planning to film a series about how industry has paved the way to the mountains we ski. Thanks!

That was very interesting. Entertaining as well as educational. A beautiful town in a very beautiful spot. Had a delicious slice of apple pie at the Tin Cup Cafe perhaps 20 years ago. The cafe has gone the way of the rest of Sandon now too.

Thanks Drew. I filmed this on 16mm in the early 70's over a number of months and after writing the narration and editing the film, Bill Booth, a retired radio jock from Trail, did a brilliant job with the oldtimer vibe.

I was in Sandon once, went up to Idaho Peak, and just before the town is a Erie grave site in the woods.

In the book "Silver, lead and Hell", it said that one old man in his late 80"s had carried a stove on his back, down one of the hills! This book was written about Sandon.
