Your terrarium is pretty good just one segment is your substrate is sand which is good but when they make tunnels all the sand just collapse so they can't use it anymore so I would suggest doing half Aspen half sand bye

I think half Aspen and half sand is a good idea. I’ve never had issues with tunnels. :)

Please elaborate. She has a good temperature gradient. Eats well outside of the enclosure with little stress and definitely no impaction. Loves to burrow. Has a humidity box with moss, water, etc.

@@rasbowsreptiles7310Sand is fine, just feed out of the enclosure. They don’t need to make tunnels that stay, they don’t do that in the wild, they like to stay covered in the sand.

A heat mat on a thermostat would probably be fine. I like to keep a halogen on a lamp though. Maybe with a dimmer.

It most definitely needs a lamp it is a dessert snake just nake to turn it off at night

I have a 75 watt infrared lamp on top and a heat pad under the tank. Also, the glue for the pad isn't great so you may need to use foil tape (used to seal ducts) to keep it up. It has a temp threshold of up to 200 degrees. DO NOT use the normal, rough duct tape.

I own two snakes now and I felt exactly like you do, Lizzie. Until I got to know them. I'm 63.and didn't have this revelation until a couple years ago. I decided it was only a prejudice and I decided I needed to challenge myself. They're really amazing beautiful fascinating and in all ways surprising.
