Interesting how the Pentel 8 is for underlining Bible passages. 😉 They’re akin to Neocolor I pencils … very very smooth pastels that don’t tear or go thru that special type of paper used in most Bibles. I found out about them from elder ladies I saw using them. I use them in my urban sketching when out & about. They’re great. No worries about paper. I have a journal & paper buying problem … soooo …. No judgements on my end 😊 Glad I watched your haul. Now I know about that nice chalk pencil.

I had no idea people used them that way. But indeed when you look at the listing on Amazon they do mention the Bible. How interesting!

A great haul! Big paper nerd here too. The Holbein watercolour squares/any square board like those are called shikishi. In Japanese = 色紙 or しきし. It literally translates as coloured paper. Shikishi are usually larger than the ones you bought, and they are always cardboard squares with a fancy gold border and a nice backing. Originally shikishi were a way to display art. The artist would write calligraphy or paint on rice paper or similar, and then glue the finished art onto the shikishi. They are still often used for art, but they are also very commonly used as sign boards. For example, to sign farewell messages to a student leaving a school. I got a few of them when I left my job in Japan from my students. It's a really sweet way to remember people.

That's so cool! I was wondering about that when reading the "translated" comments on Amazon. It all makes sense now. I love when you talk about your experience in Japan. Thank you very much for sharing. By the way, I tried one of the Holbein ones (I'll share soon with another video) with gouache, and it worked beautifully. I have to try with watercolors now.

You’re really going to like the Canton XL dry media sanded paper I really really love it that’s why I have eight pads I have four of the bigger ones and four the smaller ones so I think -4 - 8 x10 and 4-9 x 12 is only seven dollars and the eight by tens were five dollars
@Sandrinesgallery2 жыл бұрын
Wow, you must really like it!! What do use it with?
@nafordebi2 жыл бұрын
@@Sandrinesgallery I’ve used it so far with soft pastels even with wet under paintings. Using alcohol and/or water and intense w water , and soft pastels with no underpaintings using the brush and pencil fixative between layers and then the final 2nd kind same name at the end very little if any color changes also use alone with pastel pan cola which take forever lol but holds up under all of the above oh and charcoal pencils as well

Is the 'sand' texture on the sand grain paper on both sides?
@Sandrinesgallery2 жыл бұрын
It is, although the grain is a bit different. Just remember that it's not really a sand surface like with the UArt pastel paper or Pastelmat. There's no gritty ground on it, it's just a rough paper grain.

Crescent RENDR has no bleed through at all, no matter how much marker you put down
@Sandrinesgallery2 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, I really like it. But my favorite is the Canson the Wall. Have you tried it? It's simply perfect. Like the Rendr, nothing shows through.
