Howzit. I always use medium light or light rods, 7ft3, 7ft or 6ft6. Shimano Saharas and Vanfords, 3000's. 23lb berkley whiplash which is extremely thin diameter for 20lb. Also 25lb black velvet. And 20lb fluorocarbon leader, double x super shock. For grunter i generally the lightest tackle i have. No sinker and circle hooks.

@wetbread9401 no problem. It would probably be better to use even lighter braid and leader for grunter. They can be leader shy. Like even 10lb or 15lb leader, but I use thicker to play it safe in case something big takes the bait. Also, braid tends to get weaker as it ages so i use at least 20lb and still fit basically 300m on a 3000 reel if its a good quality small diameter braid. I use braid for many years before replacing.

Best way to stop a ray sitting is to pull the braid like a guitar string the vibration irritates them
