Sandvik DD422i partial Nav & Sidewinder

Some tips and tricks for navigating with Sandvik DD422i Jumbo, using "drill bit navigation".
Drilling a sidewinder on a square up face.
Getting into some more technical mining now, same principles apply just more advanced tools in the toolbox to get the job done safer, better quality and more efficiently.

I build fences in Arizona... I get to play with jackhammers, pneumatic jacks, two man augers, small equipment like bobcats, forklifts, a Dandy Digger (with auger and 3/4yd concrete mixer). Your videos make me jealous- I wish I could get the opportunity to work with some of the tools I see you using and just see some of the equipment you operate; everything from the metallurgy to the manufacture of that stuff is fascinating. Not to mention, you guys actually have safety protocols and training (or at least instruction manuals). We rely on verbal histories and tribal traditions coupled with recklessness and fecklessness to operate our stuff. Anyway, thank you for providing a window into all the fascinating and incredible things you get to work on!

Nice! I'm not used to having a screen beyond the hour meter in my equipment, and the best chance we have of getting a jumbo is a 1988 Secoma Helios rig sitting in South Carolina, lol. You're on another level with this rig.

It is similar but not the same. the biggest thing with 421 is keeping stable rotation pressure

Great videos! Very interesting. A bit sad to see Sandvik instead of Epiroc. I’m curious; can you compare the Sandy vs Epiroc/Atlas E2 - pros and cons?

I really like Sandvik drifters, But the E2 booms I find a lot more versatile. I also like having a control panel for each boom, but I think that is model specific. Don't worry you haven't seen that last of the boomers ;)

Thanks Jory, that was quite cool. The tramming footage at the end was a nice touch. Would you know anything about how the front and rear navigation targets on the boom work, when calibrating with the tunnel laser ?

Mal yes they are just plastic cards that clip into front and backsite of the boom . I like to turn the lights off on the jumbo and then it’s easy see the drift scope or what ever tunnel laser you have. Then just line up the targets on the boom with the laser and navigate .

Mal I’ll try and find a set next time I’m in. They are just plastic white squares with a hole cut in the middle. Personally I put mark on face where laser is for front site and then move the boom in the way and put laser on hose reel for backsite . Same result with less tools needed. Sandvik ones are the same as the copco ones

Why did you chose to make your ref plane so behind to square off the face. Why not just square the face the next round where you only need to navigate once?

there is less bootleg and loose to deal with on the following face. the following face prep is also easier and bolting a square face is easier. also it is much safer and loading is easier. ( so by doing extra navigation on jumbo makes all the following parts of the cycle much easier and safer. ) ( Jumbo and navigation is not the bottleneck in the cycle, no reason to rush and skimp on quality)

@@JoryDion fair enough, getting the extra meter isn't always the best solution. Did you guys open open up the intersection while mining the ramp or did you guys come back and slash? Also I noticed you are aligning your booms so does that mean you are not doing total station navigation?

@@hamzajaffri1423 Yes we slashed, this was a very old ramp. and yes no total station just using drill bit navigation. I should make a new video with navigation tricks. This is probably the most difficult scenario for drill bit navigation. We have laser available most of the time now

@@hamzajaffri1423 the DD422i has wifi available for updates, USB is also available. once navigated you can still drill manually, just based on the print you have loaded is used as a guide. the operator has full control of any type of automation but the drill prints are made by the engineer
