Sandy was pitching on 2 days rest, after a complete game shutout, and with arthritis in his left pitching elbow! And then he threw another shutout this game while relying mostly on just his fastball! One of the greatest feats ever accomplished by a pitcher, no doubt!

The story that I heard was: when catcher Roseboro and Sandy discussed his difficulties in locating his curve ball and were wondering what to do, Sandy just said (but he used the actual F word:) " F....." it; blow 'em away..."
