In the middle of the Hashira Training arc while everyone is trying to get stronger for the final battle, Tanjiro visits Giyuu’s house to try and cheer him up after a conversation earlier that let him know Giyu was feeling down, however what he sees when he gets there is a standoff between Giyuu and Sanemi the Wind Hashira, and this has been a long time coming since the Databooks tell us that Sanemi HATES Giyu with his Guts, so he of course goes all out with an attack from his First form, chipping Giyuu’s sword as he darts around him mocking the Water Hashira, saying what’s wrong? You’re no different from the rest of us, however as Sanemi continues his attacks, Giyu tries to strike him with a Water Breath technique that Sanemi dodges, though this gets him right in range of Giyu’s Piercing Rain Drop, which completely shatters Sanemi’s wooden training sword as well as Giyu’s, leaving this battle between Hashira as a draw, as Tanjiro breaks it up when they realize he’s there.

I always found this fight great because they are somewhat opposites in terms of personality and breathing. Giyu is so reserved and tranquil, whilst Sanemi is aggressive and wild. The way Giyu uses water breathing is very controlled and mainly defensive, whilst Wind breathing is hyper offense and involves lots of movement. I know Sanemi is stronger, but i think he would have a really hard time breaking Giyus defense.

Pretty sure giyuu doesn't even train during the hashira training arc and I think he also said during the arc he doesn't usually train yet he still show relativity in strength to sanemi has very good endurance supporting the other hashira depsite having a hole through his belly and slowly losing his arm and he also is the last hashira standing when demon king tanjiro appears so yes sanemi might be stronger but it's not by a lot giyuu isn't aggressive so of course sanemi does more damage because he doesn't defend at all while water breathing is more balanced and akaza even said that giyuu is the strongest person he's fought in the past 50 years he said"I haven't fought someone good in 50 years" meaning rengoku in akaza's eyes is trash in comparison to giyuu he even says rengoku wouldn't have gotten stronger as a human(yes I know the training is called hashira training not just the hashira's training

Actually no hashira is completely hated. Sanemi and Giyuu are among the most well loved. I think one of the Actually hated or least liked ones are mitsuri (before s3) and also Obanai (surprisingly, most manga readers, and anime onlys)
