Here is the collection of all SANFL club songs recorded in 1971.
It's there 50th birthday this year!

My favorite is definitely South Adelaide in this 1971 AMOCO promotion club songs list. Don’t know whether the Port Adelaide, Glenelg, or Souths songs came from, though. Does anyone know? If so, please say where they came from :) - a man from Massachusetts, USA

Glenelg’s original song ‘A Tiger For Me’ has the tune as a Scottish folk song called ‘A Gordon For Me’ As for Port and South, I don’t know at this stage. I just came upon ‘A Gordon For Me’ whilst listening to old Scottish songs and it sounded exactly the same as Glenelg’s old song

Interesting. It’s really tough to find the origin of each song when it’s a rare cover for various footy clubs :)

South Adelaide is from the sentimental song, “Lily Laguna”. The first line goes : “She’s my lady love, she is my own, dear, lady love...” the original song is sung at a much slower tempo. Incidentally, it is also the club tune of another Australian football club, Carlton, in Victoria, which plays in the national league (“AFL”): “We are the navy blues, we are the old, dark, navy blues...”. Their version is sung at nearer the original song’s tempo.

@@bigyin2586 Yep 👍, and I've definitely heard the original tune before, plenty of times. It's definitely slow, but still, it can get the job done if it's covered in the proper direction, like Carlton's club song does. For South Adelaide, it's not so much proper, IMO. Their club song is a bit too relaxing. I'd definitely say Carlton did a much better job.

Why is Woody the Woodpecker the logo for the Woodville Woodpeckers?

Maybe they were influenced by the cartoon itself, or it could be a ripoff of it, I don’t really know. They might’ve used permission from the cartoon makers 🤔
