With the push for renewable power, why wasn't this power plant brought back on line?
@michaelimbesi23145 ай бұрын
Best guess is that the economics just couldn’t be made to work. Generating power would require FERC certification, which probably carries with it a whole bunch of extra hoops to jump through, which would raise the cost of the project. And that plant would be pretty small. It might never make enough money to recoup the added cost.

That's a question for the Four Lakes Task Force. In 2021 they projected the dam would be restored by 2025. In 2022 they projected it would be restored in 2025. In October 2023 this changed to being substantially completed between January 2026 and December 2026. In May 2024 this was updated to February 2026 to August 2026 (assuming that there is no suspension of work, associated with their ability to get additional funding).

@@jdmcdorce876 i dont see a funding Problem since the tate of Michigan broke Fed Gov law the State of Michigan should be paying for every thing
@jdmcdorce8763 ай бұрын
@@dknowles60 The construction shown in the video is being funded by the State of Michigan. Where the current conundrum partially lies is that the FLTF told the State in 2021 that reconstructing the four dams would take $240 million. At that time, the State allocated $200 million under the condition that the FLTF (effectively Midland and Gladwin Counties) come up with the $40 million balance. In October 2023 the FLTF announced the cost had gone up to $350 million (+/- $40 million) and in January 2024 the cost was stated as $398 million and $217 million would need to be raised through a Special Assessment District to complete the project. There has been no plausible explanation given for the cost increase, making it difficult to go back to the well in Lansing for additional funding.

I can’t help but feel that if it’s not generating electricity, it’s not fully functional. But of course we live in the time of Renewable Energy--unless it’s the most useful form, hydroelectric power. So we fill the old historical and recently functional powerhouses with concrete while we waste irreplaceable resources to build innumerable monstrosities that will be gone in 20 years or less.

And also it blocks fish migration upriver which decreases fish populations in the river and in lake Huron. Fishing brings in 2.3 billion a year to Michigan. I know its just one river being blocked, but every river counts and has a big impact on the fishing in the surrounding areas.
