I have that same radio. It's a great one. In the USA the model number is MMR-88. At first I was unhappy that it uses an 18500 cell instead of an 18650. Then I realized that I can just plug in a power bank of any size to run the radio. I have ten 20AMP power banks in my emergency gear. In my opinion, the solar panel is a gimmick. It's too small charge the battery fast enough. It can maintain a charge from self discharge if it's in a sunny window for storage.

The European version only have AM and FM, but the North American MMR-88, which have 3 Band AM, FM and NOAA Bands. Both European and USA MMR-88 also have 9 kHz and 10 kHz AM tuning step switch, FM tuning stepping switch either 50 kHz and 100 kHz steps.

Great piece of just in case kit mate! We used to use a piece of kit called the bowman , no doubt out of date now, but was our go to comms at a camp/F.O.P stations, they were ok until they set fire!!! Good question! It is a needle that works in the northern and Southern Hemisphere.

Compasses come tuned to different parts of the world. Generally Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere but also Equatorial for use close to the equator. And global which are tuned to work everywhere. Generally speaking a global compass is less accurate because it has to have some compromise in its tuning to work in north and south hemispheres. They are also more expensive often times,

But if you are flying from Sweden to New Zealand and you don’t want to buy 2 compasses. Now you know that a global compass is for you ;-)

Silva make compasses in all the different options. . If you can buy it in Australia it will work because they will sell the Southern Hemisphere version in Australia
