Lived on Sanibel for 10 years and knew Sam and Francis, lived in Charlie McCullough house in Woodrings pt next to Ralph and Esperanza.. would have coffee with them some mornings but it was a great privilege to live in Ding Darlings Fish house for 3 years...

That house has a spirit in the upstairs bedroom. House is gone now, had a fire then razed. A wealthy couple put up a ridiculous huge mansion, sold it for many many millions after Hurricane Ian. I lived on Sanibel for many years and walked by that place daily; I would go down the drive to let my dog run free on the empty property. I loved that old fishing camp, 2 cisterns on the porch and not updated. Old rum bottles buried under the porch from the days of bootlegging; I found several. It was a place of serenity, a time gone by, now gone. Mr. Woodring is not well, may have passed on by now, I have not kept up. I'm glad you got to enjoy the place, you were blesses my friend.

My dad lived here around 1952. He said he helped build the first bar.... watching this, I wondered if it was Jack's Place? Dad met the love of his life there, Caroline. He was shocked and heartbroken to find out there was a bridge to the island.

Well then, I guess you would not have been very happy with the Sanibel of years gone by. People in those times were appreciative and far more grateful.

Why does this start with “ white” people on Sanibel when the Calusa were there long before that? WGCU should be ashamed for this gaffe.

That's before they were wiped out by the Seminoles or creek since thats what they were called before the runaways became Seminoles...You're talking about hundreds and hundreds of years ago.
