I love seeing how different people depict W.D. Gaster. Some people write him as a mad scientist who treats Sans and Papyrus like lab-rats, others write him as a caring father who would lay down his life and limbs for the safety of his sons, and still others don't see him as their father at all, but a mentor and a friend. It's pretty incredible to have all these different perspectives when the only thing remotely confirmed about Gaster is his name and the fact that he is/was a scientist.

I couldn't decide which I wanted to be true, mad scientist( evil or just wacky ) or loving father, they both just seem so RIGHT for his character whenever I read or listen to either or. So I've decided on mashing the two together, he started off as a loving father but gradually over time, as the pressure of freeing his people grew and grew, he slowly started losing his sanity. At first it was silly, he'd do things that would get a chuckle out of a co-worker or his family and royally mess up stuff in the dumbest ways, and gradually it got worse; he enlisted Sans to help out in the lab to be both a great help with his likeness of mind and soon to snap him out of his outbursts of more intense insanity. He was very much a wreck and maybe just a bit evil-y when he finally slipped up when completing the Core and got sucked in. After it happened, Sans, horrified and being the only one to retain his memories of his father, raced away, picked up Papyrus and moved them as far away from the Core as possible, to Snowdin. Gaster, shattered across time and space, has shed the insanity that captured him in life and, desperate yet hopeless to get out and back to his sons, and as most people like to depict his goopy self has assumed his lonely, kinda sad and Goopy Gaster stage, wandering endlessly, everywhere and nowhere at all until -someone- can figure out how to free him. And of course that's what Sans is doing in the secret lab with that machine.

I think that they just need someone to listen. if a person doesn't understand what someone is going through, they shouldn't try and advise them on what to do. that'll just make them feel worse. A lot of parents say that they understand how their child is feeling, but depression (and most mental disorders, honestly) varies from person to person. the cause is, a lot of times, not specific. and the child is just as lost as to *why* they feel this way as anyone else is. if someone is depressed, you should just listen. let them talk about their feelings even if it doesn't make sense. and don't force them to explain if they can't. when you know more, you can try and figure out what to do. sometimes people don't need advice at all. but that's just my two cents, as a depressed person myself. It's a very complicated subject, after all.

One of the hard things about this whole video is how accurate it feels. I also am a depressed person, and I hate when people tell me how great I am doing, because if I'm doing so great, why do I feel so awful? For me, it's the self awareness that hurts, or at least, the self awareness of what I'm doing wrong. I know I'm doing things wrong and need to get better. I also know that I'm doing the best I can, so how can I get better. And if I'm doing so horribly and need to get better, how can someone say I'm doing a good job? For me, all I want to hear is that it's ok, that I can rest, that I'm not alone. I want to feel seen and heard. I want to be able to vent and get all of the horrible things bouncing around in my head out in the open, but I don't want to hurt anyone. I don't want to burden anyone. So I need someone to truly listen, and then not try and fix anything immediately or anything. Because when my emotions are bare and vulnerable, it's like an injury that just needs some tender care.

The great thing is that people really go through this stuff. I did, my dad never accepted my mental health problems..then he did, he realized what he was doing later on, and how it was affecting me. He put me in therapy, and started really trying to help me. I didn’t accept it, after years of being told I was fine and was just being a brat, suddenly being told it was an actual problem that needed treatment was a big change. Later on I accepted the help and started getting better. What I’m trying to say is this happens to real people and the fact a video game can aid in showing this is just amazing, it really shows the versatile nature of Undertale and how much it really affected people for years. At least Sans finally has the strength to talk to his father. He's detached himself from is emotions through means of puns, jokes, and being by himself for so long that he doesn't know how to express how he feels and when someone tries to get him to talk it scares him because he's so used to dealing with it on his own. It's not healthy and it could really damage him mentally. Gaster's a great father and deserves a father of the comic award. With all of that being said, how many people would burst into tears if someone looked them in the eye for once and finally asked in a sincere way if they were okay or stuck around to make sure the person was telling the truth when they said they're fine? How many lives would be changed from that one bit of kindness? Heh, I'd probably bawl like a lil kid and have my mindset on humanity changed.

Bruh, as soon as the video started with Sans calling himself some bad names, I was like "RED FLAG! RED FLAG!" in my head and had to pause the video 30 seconds in and think.
