This one wraps it up. Unfortunately I lost some video because I didn't realize that the camera battery had died.

Hi Nice video , I am working on a 9090 at the moment, I have given it a full service and it sound great, radio receives strong , clean and clear sounding but it never receives in stereo, I rarely work on tuners as most of the units I work on are many for vinyl .. is there an obvious reason for no stereo decoding as I don't really want to send the receiver back like this altho it's probably not going to be used on FM ..

Brett, check the easy stuff first. Is the Stereo indicator lamp good? If it was replaced with an LED that can cause issues as well. The bulb is actually part of the circuit, and if it's bad or replaced with an incorrect lamp the tuner won't work in stereo. Are you getting sufficient signal strength for stereo reception?

Around 1:45 you talk about tuners with multiple IF sections. Is there a good way to to align them without a sweep generator? I have a Marantz 19 that just does not sound as clean as I think it should. I compared it to a Marantz 18 and the 18 was way better. The IF is the one thing in these early units I stay out of. Thanks again for the great videos.

I think you can peak each one, starting with the last one first. But TBH this is not my strongest area. Check out Mr.s Carlson's Lab or XrayTonyB for guidance.

which active probe are you using? Thanks in advance
@raygianelli36126 ай бұрын
Larry, I've got an old Tektronix P6201. I had to get an external power supply for it, since none of my scopes had it built in.

Do you have the specs or part number for the power supply for the probe?
@raygianelli36126 ай бұрын
Yes, it's Tektronix 1101 or 1101A. I paid $40 for the one I have on eBay. They've gone up, but I wouldn't pay the asking prices I'm seeing.@@RichardandLarry

Mr. Carlson uses test equipment that would date both of us! I could never figure out why he's so stuck on '50's technology! If he's trying to appeal to yard-sale-ers finding junk on a lucky chance, I don't think it'll work.

I've often said that you don't need vintage test equipment to troubleshoot vintage audio equipment. That said, Paul Carlson is one smart guy. Maybe ask on his channel why he does that.

@@raygianelli3612 Oh, no doubt. The guy is a genius!
