good stuff ray! people should always be mindful of those set screws, after you remove the knob, tighten the screw back in. the last thing you want is to lose one and you know what murphy says...

Excellent! Yep, do it right! My dad taught me, “ if it’s worth doing, do it right”.

Thanks Ray, I was searching for replacements for those dual transistors, got distracted by youtube as one does and found the solution. Thanks again.

Yes those studs on Epcos .............i had the same case two years ago , I sawed them of because there was no place but they could/would have made a very good mechanical fix.... And they are connected to the minus !!!!! This are high quality capcitors but they need some hours before they release musical pleasure... Thanks Ray

Frank, it's getting harder to find drop in replacements for many parts. So as a result we have to get creative, and occasionally that means breaking out the saw!

In 30+ years using De-Oxit I've never seen it damage carbon pots - just tends to wash away lubricants so you need to be careful of that. I follow D5 with D100 pump spray, then I blow out the excess with canned air. Like Carlson says, repeat after 24 hrs if possible. Never a single problem.

Mark, after watching your videos I have a great deal of respect for your abilities. And truthfully I haven't had any negative results when I did use D5 in pots. But I've read and seen videos warning of issues caused by D5 in pots, and considering that most of the pots on vintage audio gear are NLA I just don't want to chance it.

@@raygianelli3612 Yeah I get it. I only ever heard the warnings for the very first time in the last few months. I notice the Fader Lube is recommended for plastic element sliders etc.

Thanks Danny! It's quite the task, and you need to be able to dig yourself out of any issues that you might inadvertently cause. Best practice is to check operation after each board or section. Also be aware that the traces on the PCB are very delicate after 40 some years. The adhesive that holds the copper to the board isn't what it used to be.

Reading lots of datasheets, goes with the job, if you don't do that, and replace parts, what you think is good, But actually doesn't match the specs, you maybe cause some problems that are hard to find, because you caused them yourself. That's why TI send me from time to time upgrades from their parts in a long PDF, sometimes useful, wish that other company's provided this info too. Film caps and elco's I pretty much try to get the Wurth long lives, they are good deliverable and a great brand. As an extra, I usually put the knobs into ultrasonic cleaner with only a soft detergent. But always try first a small piece, that you don't ruin the shine. PS: I use deoxit fader as well, Deoxit fader 100, the substance is thicker, but you have to remove the faders, otherwise the chassis is full of that product. For the switches I use Deoxit D5, And after a few hours also fadercleaner. In this case you took the front panel off, so that's good, another tip, wear bad t-shirts, because if you get Deoxit on your clothes, and you wash them together with other clothes, the whole was machine clothes have stains that you never can remove. I had it a few times.

I made the mistake of using the wrong type of cleaner in the faders of an old Soundcraftsman Stereo EQ that I have. It dried them out so bad they were hard to move. I still have the unit and may try using a proper, "fader" lube in them to see if it's salvageable.

Hi Ray. During your rebuild, did you notice a spring coiled around the volume knob post? I bought one of these second hand and I’m taking it apart to clean it. I noticed that spring looks a bit mangled and I’m not sure if it was positioned correctly. Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Loved the vid!
