I never learn Christmas songs, but thought this year I’d put the effort in for once. This is exactly what I wanted to play. That sort of lost in a snow storm and finally arrive at the hotel and this is playing in the lobby. Perfect 🎅🏼

Rupert im just stumbling across your playing and I have several questions. How did you get started? How long have you been playing? Who do you look up to pianistacally? What was/is your routine? With Christmas on the horizon it is a gift to encounter your music, thank you Rupert. Gameo.

Hi there, thanks for your interest and glad you are enjoying my piano arrangements. I have been playing piano about 35 years with the classical and romantic repertoire as my first love and jazz / popular song as a further passion. Who do I look up to? In the classical world it is definitely Shura Cherkassky (RIP 1995) - I twice saw him play live in the early 1990's and they were unforgettable experiences. Somehow audio and film recordings do not capture what it was like to hear himn live. In the jazz world it is Kenny Barron - love his style.

Oh man this again is a beautiful arrangement! You never fail to make me fall in love with your pieces. I was wondering if you could give me some help/information on how you always make your arrangements. So how you approach the process of making it. Long story short, I’m going to apply for the Jazz piano Bachelor in Berlin next year and for the audition I need to play a “medium” Jazz arrangement which I have to write myself. So I was hoping if you could help me out there a little since I have no experience but dozens of ideas in my head. If you’ll read this or not, I wish you a very nice day :)

@@modernmusicofthedarkages296 Hi there. Sounds like you picked up my answer to a similar question under my "That's All" video. Another importsant part of my proces is playing around with the chord voicings and deciding where I want to do some modest re-harmonisation, and also deciding where I should add some altered or extended dominant chords. In my opinion altered dominant chords (eg C7b9b13 etc) have a beautiful colourful sound but shouldn't be used too much, so I like to find the best few places to use and also carefully choose which alterations to use. Good luck with your audition!
