I heard a rumor that the AL models are coming which will be awesome. I’ve got a 4.1 in the incredible salmon color and video’s don’t do it justice, it looks amazing in person. The bike is a blast everywhere. From flat XC trails, all the way to Captain Ahab in Moab, it’s so much fun. Goes everywhere and jumps better than anything else I’ve ridden.

Loved the video! I also love my Santa Cruz Bronson which I rode today at Opening Day at Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort here in California. I bought the bike last summer. I’m a 60 year old rider who, until this bike, had only owned rigid frames. I’m in another world on the Bronson jumping higher and farther at 60 than anytime previous in my life. The mullet set up works well on switchbacks and berms. I’ve heard the word “tracking” used to describe the feeling of the rear tire following the front. Through gnarly rock gardens this bike feels super stable. Also at higher speeds through the roughest terrain the bike is maneuverable and feels solid. I work as a carpenter and my wife calls me “The Tool Tester” because I break things. The Bronson has been one tough tool! I really enjoyed watching you riding style - a great balance of economy of movement and SPEED! Thank You for the vid! (Now I really can’t wait to ride again tomorrow!)

I've been riding the 2021 BronsonMX for 2 years now, yes I got it in 2020, and the bike is the dream! It's excellent in steep chunky stuff, performs great at speed, and is insanely stable in the air! The small rear wheel keeps the rear right underneath you when turning. Corners on a dime. 10/10

I replaced my the old 2018 Santa Cruz Hightower with the new 2023Tallboy this past March, and the new bike had the same creak which ghostly disappears then comes back again. The culprit ended up being the dropper post (and seat collar) which enjoys a healthy lump of greasing every few months. Thanks for the great video.

I'm going to be in the market for a full sus trail bike mid/end of next year. I'm in North Dakota so similar-ish mountain-free terrain. Lots of narrow singletrack - often with chattery, ungroomed grassy bits and cattle trails - in my local riding future. Do you feel like the 5010 is ever not enough bike for you? What sorts of things do you ride? I see a lot of Minnesota trips in my future, is the 5010 enough travel for spots like Cuyuna? I've not been out there so I have no idea what I could expect over there! Thank for any info you can lend!

@@DontWorryImAPilot, I live in Brainerd and ride Cuyuna several times per week. I can say that I’ve never felt underbiked with the 5010. I also have a Trek Fuel Ex 7, which has a little more travel up front. The Santa Cruz is a lot more playful and maneuverable, and it handles the chunky stuff well. I don’t typically do big drops or large jumps, but I ride the rock gardens well. Hope that helps.

As someone who was never very good at drifting or cornering with speed in general, I find this the main advantage of mullet. The rear wheel will generally be the one to cut loose first which makes agressive cornering more predictable. And I've just found the cornering to feel more like a "carve" for whatever that's worth.

Great content as always Jeff!! The Bronson looks like a great time. I was eyeballing one earlier in the year. My only problem with it and all Santa Cruz's is the pretty cheap kit you tend to get for your $$, so I always look elsewhere. The S Bronson is $6000 and only comes with a cheap Fox fork and select+ shock, meh AR rims with 370 hubs and the cheap Code R brakes (which are pretty bad compared to the RSC). For that sort of money you should at the very least be getting RS Ultimate or Fox Elite level suspension and RSC brakes.

I made a similar experience coming from a 2016 stumpy to bronson 3. the bike felt more sturdy and pedaled so much better. Honestly I could not think of anything that the stumpy did better. Now I'm on a Nomad 5 and I just love that bike. Just make sure to press some grease in the lower linkage, they don't to it in factory for some reason. Once all the lower linkage is fully packed with grease (repeat that 1-2 times a year), it can easily make 2-3 years without bearing change. Also you can get the bearings for free if needed.

@alexgordon8277
@alexgordon8277 Жыл бұрын
@@edubarc73 Nomad is a lot softer, but pedals about the same. Bronson had a sporty feel. I installed a megneg on the super deluxe and had a custom tune on it to make it feel a bit more planted and more progressive. The nomad felt good immediately. It has so much grip, it's way more composed when you plough through roots and feels bottomless. But downside is that it feels kind of slow and lazy on flatter trails. I ended up installing a megneg as well to get a little more support, I can imagine a coil shock would help as well in this regard.

i think mullet is more suited for enduro and downhill. Bettter Turn in helps those long bikes more and the better roll over angels dont matter at high speeds as the smaller rear wheels let the suspension work better(the traction disadvantage of mullets at lower speeds turns into a traction advantage if youre fast enough and the trail is rough enough). also a stronger rear wheel is always nice

Hay Jeff, nice rig! if you want to get rid of that annoying creaking coming from the headset. Then rap the outside of the headset bearings with approx 2 full turns of P.T.F.E plumbing tape. Stretch it on tightly, trim off the access tape that overlaps the seals. And reinstall the bearings. Job done! Super cheap but very affective!

Reasons for mullet: Stronger wheel, less gearing needed on cassette, smaller rotor needed, reduced mass = more responsive suspension and acceleration, increased ass-to-tire clearance, allows for more wheel travel without compromising tube placement, increased chance of fitting fatter tires I ride full 27.5 and will hold onto 27.5 F/R as long as possible…

The smaller rear wheel increases the scrub radius of the rear wheel, causing the force vector to push the force of the rear wheel into the turn, instead of into the front wheel line when using the same size rear wheel. It's a force that can be felt in tighter turns. You do lose a little rollover speed, but gain a little more cornering and acceleration speed- not to mention wheel strength and weight gains. It's definitely the bike on my wish list.
@alexfoster9683
@alexfoster9683 Жыл бұрын
Yea but that force vector clashes with the hypotenuse of the angle between the seat tube and the valve stem when airborne. In the past I've rectified this by running 20" tubes and cushcore valves but that effects the scrub side of the force when pedalling up 69° fire roads

I just got a mullet Nomad C from Jensen, running 38 and X2, I'm super happy. I have a Stumpy Evo and had an Enduro, the current SC designs are better imo. Horst has some additional compromises vs a good VPP/multilink. Evo may be a little too lightweight and not quite stiff enough, Enduro is a little too big. So I'm building my Evo a little lighter, the frame is a LOT lighter vs Nomad, and am psyched to have the Nomad for burlier trail. Mullet: it's less inherently stable and hence more eager to turn, cornering is more intuitive vs a full 9'er as you don't need quite as much lean angle, and it responds to increased lean angle more readily vs a full 9er. It makes the bike feel more agile overall.

What would you recommend? A Bronson v4.1 CC X0 AXS @ $5800 or a 2022 Pivot Mach 6 Pro X01 Coil @ $4000? The Bronson gets the glove box, warranty, and wireless derailleur. The Mach 6 is dual 27.5 (which I would prefer), much cheaper, and theoretically more nimble. I'm not particularly interested in the fastest times downhill. I want a fun ride. I want a do it all bike, quiver killer. Love to know what you think!

For me? Altitude. I just dig dual 29” bikes.

Nice video! I own a Stumpy Evo and always wondered how the Bronson does in comparison. Seems like the Bronson does a little better, but for me the Stumpy feels like a bike that isn't that playful and has been engineered around 29 inch wheels anyway.

I really wish Jeff was on a carbon Evo to get that comparison. I ride a carbon Evo at the moment and find it plenty playful. Curious how similar the alloy version feels.

Does the bike come with salmon in all regions or would there be local fish or meat offered in other parts of the world?

I think maybe for a rider like you yes there is not much advantage to the mullet since you can make any bike do what you want lol. But for us average to terrible riders it makes the rear much more maneuverable. Could be wrong but that’s my 2 cents.

Did you ever get a chance to ride a Status? I just ordered a frame simply because it was only $750 and I have a bunch of spare parts laying around.

I have owned several SC bikes and they were silent. I wonder what's creaking. Do you find it more or less capible than the SB140?

When I worked at a santa cruz dealing shop, the green "bearing retainer" loc-tite was a good friend to keep headset bearings in place. Even though their manufacturing tolerances are great, it still came in handy quite frequently.

Hi Jeff, What pump/pump holder do you have on your Bronson? I tried two on my Megatower, but neither one fits under the basket because they are short and the frame is too wide :/ Great review as always!! When I saw the thumbnail I immediately started to smile, finally Santa Cruz for the test. :)

I am intrigued by the mullet to avoid getting my a$$ buzzed on steeps... I am also 5'-8" and considering the Bronson as my next full squish. Do you not get buzzed every so often?
