"The Basilica of Santa Lucía or alternatively Basilica minor de Santa Lucía is a religious building affiliated with the Catholic Church that is located in the town of Timotes in the Miranda Municipality in the State of Mérida, in the Andes of the South American country of Venezuela. It depends of the Archdiocese of Mérida (Archdiocesis Emeritensis in Venetiola) It has the status of both a National Shrine and a Basilica.
These are one of the 2 Basilicas in Mérida, the other being the Cathedral Basilica Menor de la Inmaculada Concepción in the state capital. It received the distinction of minor Basilica under the pontificate of Pope John Paul II in 2002. Decree that was executed the following year by Monsignor Baltazar Porras "
