Holy CRAP!! That was amazing! That second intermodal was definitely going faster than any intermodal I've seen in New York!

Firstclass91 agreed! Much faster than anything CSX I've seen in northern PA and Ohio

Fastest I've seen them go is 60. Amtrak, 79.

That's because the rail traffic in the western part of the country isn't nearly as congested as the east, there's less curves and hills to deal with so they can go way faster than around here (I'm on the east coast)

I did some research on the leading engine of the second train and found out that ATSF 643 was a C44-9W. Must be a really early model because the ditch lights are lower. It also has a Leslie RS3L instead of the Nathan K3LA which was standard on most C44-9Ws. It now wears a P series horn.

ATSFs 600 series were among the first dash 9s built, in 1993. The ones with higher ditch lights and k3s started being built in 1997 starting with the 700 series, which were the last ge units delivered in warbonnet colors

I wish it was possible to go back in time and watch the BN & Santa Fe in the 90's... I'd love to go back and see the ATSF flying by with intermodal after intermodal in the midwest and BN flooding PRB with their new MAC's on massive coal trains.

ATSF in the early 80s was awesome as well, at least to a certain 13 year old kid who lived in Flagstaff at the time.

Why does that ATSF GP60 have an L&N style headlight placement?

The Warbonnet has an RS3L and the Yellowbonnet has a K3LA
