That Amtrak train was the heartland flyer which I’ve been trying to get tickets to ride to texas for years now

Sweet old Warbonnets! Those 2 really don’t look bad for their age, as I’ve certainly seen ones in worse conditions.(the Dash 8 ones come to mind)
@Southern_Plains_Railfan2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Dash-9 warbonnets could definitely be in better shape, but some of those Dash-8 warbonnets are ROUGH.
@AlikStansberry2 жыл бұрын
Yeah and due to their rough condition, they've been nicknamed "Trashbonnets". Most didn't get the repaint treatment and were worked pretty hard until retirement.

The horn you mentioned isn’t a rs3l, it’s a k3la. The only Santa Fe warbonnets with rs3l’s or rs3k’s are 621, 628, 640, 644, 646, 651, 664, 667, 676, 678, 684(h2 paint), 688 and 692. I might’ve missed 1, but that’s most of them

Oh my bad. I’m not much of a horn guy, so I thought all warbonnets had rs3l’s. Thanks for letting me know.

Caught this local with 629 leading this weekend. It’s funny that I have a model of the locomotive, that I got about a year before I even saw it.

bnsf geeps feel like they’ve been upgraded at least once in its service
@Southern_Plains_Railfan Жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, all standard cab engines today are either pretty darn old or starting to get up there in years. All Class 1 railroads usually regularly upgrade them to keep them in ship shape.

You should look at the 673. I caught it idling in Texas once. There was nothing on the nose!
@Southern_Plains_Railfan Жыл бұрын
I actually caught 673 a year or two ago and noticed the same thing. Did it get in a wreck or does it just have bad paint?
@rbd1303 Жыл бұрын
I have no clue. I'm no geek on railroading. Might've hit a semi and gotten badly repainted H1 or H2 doors 🤔

Hey southern plains railfan, do you have advice for railfanning in Southern California?

I plan to go to Oklahoma sometime soon, any tips on where this local ends on the north side?
@Southern_Plains_Railfan2 жыл бұрын
If you do go, just know that they have been switching around the power on it, so your chances of seeing a warbonnet aren’t going to be 100%. The northernmost industry the local switches is in Wynnewood, OK. Some good places to see it in passing are Central Park in Moore, and there’s a nice gravel patch on the west side of the tracks in Norman. It’s right by the Amtrak depot. Central Park is going to be the northernmost place you’ll be able to catch it, however I’d recommend Norman, because it has fantastic sight lines looking south.
@tramtrak6292 жыл бұрын
I would recommend the Amtrak depot down in Norman. I have recorded almost 100 videos there.
